As data use becomes more pervasive, we find ourselves divided into two opposing viewpoints: The Surveillance Economy: One perspective views the overuse of data as a slippery slope toward a surveillance state, with increased control and regulation threatening personal freedoms. More Data, More Evidence: On the flip side, there are those who argue that the more data we have, the better equipped we are to make informed decisions, counter extremist views, and provide scientific evidence. This divide creates a complex discourse around the ethics of data use, privacy, and governance. Where do you stand? CC: Elie Bassil 🔍 Explore both sides of the debate in the full podcast episode! Did you know it's Privacy Awareness Week (PAW)? 🕵️ Each year, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) holds PAW to highlight the importance of personal information protection and the challenges of today's privacy landscape. This year, the theme is "Power Up Your Privacy," and PAW runs from 6-12 May. The constant evolution of technology, including AI, data analytics, social media, and our reliance on devices demands a proactive approach to privacy – we should all be more aware of how our information is used and protected. That's why looking after your own, your practice's and your clients' privacy practices is crucial. While this was recorded back in late 2023, some of the messages discussed in this episode of #TaxVibe between Robyn Jacobson, CTA, Debra Anderson, ATI, and Corey Cacic are as relevant as ever!
