4 Mistakes to Avoid when Hiking the Camino de Santiago 🥾 💫 Knowing what to expect when hiking the mighty Camino de Santiago is key to getting the best from the experience! ❌ Here’s 4 key mistakes to avoid from someone who’s just completed it! 1️⃣ Opting for the Summer Season Most people hike the camino in July and August, but it can be incredibly hot at this time of year and crowds and prices are sky high. Instead, I’d opt for the shoulder season months. May and October offer good weather, but much lower crowds and cheaper accommodation prices 2️⃣ Not Choosing Luggage Transfer The hardcore camino folk carry their bags on their back the whole way, but if you really want to enjoy the walk, then getting your luggage transferred between your accommodation is a winner let me tell you. Follow the Camino offer this service, as well as airport transfers, accommodation bookings, planning and route tips to help you get the best from your Camino experience. 3️⃣ Not Packing a Decent Daypack You’ll be walking for 5-8 hours a day on the camino, so making sure you have a good daypack with everything you’ll need is essential! Guidebooks, camera, snacks, water, waterproof gear, sunhat, wallet and a mini first aid kit with plasters for those blisters is essential! 4️⃣ Forgetting your Pilgrim Passport And talking of daypack items, don’t forget your pilgrim passport. Every day along the Camino you can get stamps at various cafes, bars, hotels and churches, which allows your camino to be verified when you reach Santiago - you’ll even get a certificate! 💥 GET 10% OFF your Camino adventure with planning Experts Follow the Camino using my discount code 💰Steph10 HERE ➡️ https://bit.ly/4fcGHhg ❓Have anymore questions about hiking the camino? Climbing mountains, breathing fresh air, and pushing physical limits can yield so much more than just a good time in nature. Did you know that many of the most well-known hiking trails in the U.S. cover a staggering 8,000 miles and can climb over a million feet? LESSONS FROM HIKING THE LARAPINTA TRAIL Over the last fortnight my wife and I ticked off one of our bucket-list items. We hiked (part of) the Larapinta Trail. This demanding track starts in Alice Springs and goes for over 220km to the west – ending at Mt. Sonder. We did 150km in nine days as a kind of “best of…” The scenery is marvellous as you move slowly across the landscape. Red rocks everywhere and beautiful ridges – which you also need to traverse to get to the next campsite. We were seven hikers in total plus two guides providing us with food and encouragements. Two of our fellow hikers were badly prepared and not equipped for this strenuous adventure. They've either never done a multiday hike before or their shoes were not worn in. So that on day two they started to develop massive blisters and knee problems. Consequently, by day four or five we were down to five hikers! It is the same with your business processes… If your systems are in a bad state or your calculations are not equipped to do the work, you give up! You either end up with severe headaches and frustrations or you spend endless hours to get your numbers adding up. Don’t let your equipment let you down. Don’t let your systems ruin your day. Let’s fix it before you get blisters or knee problems. And as it is with good hiking shoes – these solutions are fit for purpose. Give me a call and within ten minutes we can work out what size you need. ;-) [https://lnkd.in/gevhe2zR] Jürgen Schmechel Building Better Systems since 1985 Simple Solutions to Complex Problems

“Thru hiking“; the act of trekking an entire long-distance trail from end to end, appeals to countless adventurers. While the most famous trails are in the United States—the Pacific Crest Trail, the Appalachian Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail—Europe has its own array of iconic routes. Think of the Camino de Santiago, the Via Francigena, the Via Alpina, and the classic Land’s End to John o’Groats in the UK. Yet, amidst the thrill of adventure lies the necessity for meticulous planning, resilience, and the perfect gear. Striking the perfect balance is key: carry too little, and you might find yourself without essential gear when you need it most; carry too much, and you’ll be weighed down by unnecessary items driven by the pervasive “just in case” mentality that turns your backpack into a black hole of gear. To offer insights into mastering this balance, we've partnered with HiiKER: The Hiking Maps App and three seasoned thru-hikers in the UK, who share their top tips for packing on your inaugural thru-hike. Here are some of our favourites: ◼️ Utilise Items with Multiple Uses: Neck buffs can wipe condensation away from your tent, serve as a hat on cold mornings, and even double up as a sweatband. A foam pad is another versatile item to take. It can function as a sleep pad, or a sit pad, and help with the rigidity of your pack if you’re using a frameless pack. ◼️ Choose Trail Runners Over Hiking Boots: Opt for lightweight and quick-drying trail runners instead of traditional hiking boots for increased comfort, agility, and reduced risk of blisters on the trail. ◼️ Assess Gear Needs Before Purchasing: Gather all your gear before selecting a backpack to ensure it's properly sized, preventing the common mistake of choosing a pack that's either too large or too small. I wanted to take a brief moment to highlight what's included in the book. With that said, what exactly is in this trail guide? * Detailed descriptions for 75 day hikes that lead to tranquil backcountry lakes, roaring waterfalls, deep canyons, alpine meadows and placid glaciers. Many ascend to high mountain passes and summits. All of them will lead you to extraordinary places that offer breathtaking scenery. * Hikes range from easy strolls to all-day adventures. Many include notes on shorter options, side trips to other nearby destinations, as well as locations of backcountry campsites for those wishing to create a backpacking trip. * Hikes span across four national parks (Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Rocky Mountain), thirteen national forests, two national monuments and one national preserve. * Each hike covered in this guide includes a detailed trail description, key reference points, specific information you need to be aware of, color photographs, trail maps, and driving directions to the trailhead. * Each hike also includes key stats that can be reviewed at a glance. Hiking trails are like audit trails (yes, really)! For those who know me, hiking is more than just a outdoor activity. It gives me perspective and peace of mind. There's something about following a well-marked trail, knowing exactly where I've been and what lies ahead, that gives me clarity and purpose. But here’s where it gets interesting. I've come to realise that hiking trails are quite similar to audit trails that digital access control systems offer. Wait, stay with me! 👀 Visibility. Just as a hiking trail shows you the path ahead, a digital access audit trail lets you see every access point, who entered, when they did, and what actions were taken. It provides a clear and reliable record, much like how trail markers keep you on the right track. 🔐 Security: When hiking, you rely on the trail to guide you safely through unknown territory. Similarly, digital access systems with detailed audit trails ensure that only authorised individuals can access specific areas, securing your path and preventing anyone from veering off into restricted zones. ✌🏼 Peace of Mind: On the trails, knowing you're following the correct path gives you confidence and peace of mind. The same applies to building management. When you have a solid audit trail, you can rest easy knowing that you have complete oversight over who is entering and leaving your facility. 🙋🏼♀️Accountability: Whether hiking solo or in a group, you’re accountable for your steps. Likewise, audit trails hold individuals accountable by tracking every action taken within a digital locking system, ensuring transparency at every step. So, in a way, hiking trails and audit trails both ensure that we’re never lost, never straying off course, and always moving safely forward with purpose. A clear trail can make all the difference. 🥾🚶🏼 #AccessControl #DigitalSecurity #FacilityManagement
