🤔What is Biotech4Food Project for? 👇🏻 One of the reasons for this project was the need to have a general overview of the biotechnology situation in Europe 🌍 and, in particular, in each region. 📌In order to get this picture, a whole work package was designed: The Strategic Implementation & Roadmapping of the project. The information we aim to obtain from this phase of the project is: ▶ Opportunities, challenges and needs of the agri-food sector. ▶ Identification of regional biotechnological strengths and expertise by identifying relevant research and technology organisations (RTOs), companies, etc. capable of addressing the challenges of the agri-food industry. ▶ Identify existing barriers and obstacles to the rapid adoption of biotechnology in the agri-food sector. ▶ An overview of the availability and equipment of living laboratories, pilot facilities and technology platforms. ▶ Regional strategies for biotechnology development, relevant projects and available regional funding. ℹ New brainstorm session! 👉 As part of the Biotech4Food project, ANFACO-CECOPESCA has been working on an analysis of the state-of-the-art of the use of #biotechnology 🔬 in the #Galician #agrifood industry. Several interviews were conducted with actors of the agrifood industry, #biotech solution providers, and #researchers, supplemented by #surveys 📝 and desk research, with the goal of identifying regional #strengths and #opportunities 🎯 , as well as hurdles and barriers to overcome. 📌 Following this analysis, ANFACO-CECOPESCA is hosting a complementary #brainstorm 💭 session on June 28th from 10 am to 12 pm, grouping the aforementioned stakeholders and regional authorities, to validate the results of this state-of-the-art analysis and further discuss the main challenges of implementing #biotechnology in the food industry, the measurements that can be taken at regional level to improve #cooperation 🤝 between research and industry and strengthen the use of biotech in the food industry with the support of regional authorities, and to identify #thematics for which interregional cooperation can be advantageous. 📢 EXCITING 🆕 FOR THE BIOTECHNOLOGY SECTOR IN #SPAIN! 📆 The regional Goverment of Galicia, Xunta de Galicia (Spain), approved 📝 this week the creation of the first knowledge transfer office specialising in the #biotechnology sector in the region, with the aim of facilitating the conversion into #business 🏬 of the different research carried out in this field, and thus promoting #Galicia as a #bioregion of #reference. 👉 This announcement took place during the presentation of the mid-term review of the Strategy for the Consolidation of Biotechnology in Galicia 2021-2025, and is one of the measures that have been taken to position the #biotechnology sector as an #international 🗺 #benchmark and activate its promotion in the region, by increasing the economic activity of this sector in terms of #employment, #turnover and #entrepreneurship in the field of R&i. 📌 The GAIN (Galician Innovation Agency) is the Xunta de Galicia's entity that mobilised the most #funds 💶 in these first 3️⃣ years, with the biosanitary subsector being the most benefited, followed by marine 🌀 resources and environmental 🌱 solutions. ANFACO-CECOPESCA, partner of Biotech4Food project and one of the most prominent Galician R&I agents, is a key entity in the development 📈 of biotechnology in the region. 🧠🌱 Regional brainstorm: biotechnology in the French South-East agri-food industry A few days ago, Innov'Alliance - Le pôle de compétitivité de la Naturalité Agroalimentaire Nutraceutique Cosmétique Arômes Parfums organised a roundtable session to discuss the challenges, barriers, and potential solutions in the application of biotechnology in the agri-food industry of the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Région Sud - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur 🚧 Participants found that significant #barriers in their use were current legislation, consumer perception, and the lack of adequate infrastructure at regional level. 🤔 How do we address these barriers? Concrete ideas emerging from the discussion included: - To maximize collaboration and work in #collective effort; - To map the regional #ecosystem of agri-food #biotechnology actors; - To build a regional #strategy around agri-food biotechnology; - To set up pilot plants in our territories, reflecting on the model of #public-#private partnerships. 📢 Efforts are underway by Innov'Alliance - Le pôle de compétitivité de la Naturalité Agroalimentaire Nutraceutique Cosmétique Arômes Parfums to continue building on these ideas, both with the actors of the agri-food industry, as well as with the relevant regional political actors.
