I just completed LifeArc's Life Sciences: Biology Research on Forage. In the simulation I: Completed a job simulation involving optimizing experimental conditions for Lifearc's Biology Research team. Analyzed the differentiation protocol for optimization needs. Reviewed and compared experimental results. Populated presentation slides with data and conclusions. Found it difficult but really interesting and now definitely want to do a placement in research next year. PhD scholarship within biotechnology About the position The Faculty of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant three-year PhD-position related to biotechnology. The PhD will be connected to the ERC-funded project “NOD-AOL: Nitric oxide-driven anaerobic oxidation of lignocellulose” and the PhD student will be a part of the Protein Engineering and Proteomics (PEP) group and with strong connections to the NMBU Nitrogen-group. By examining the intricate breakdown of plant material under denitrifying conditions in freshwater wetland and biofilters, the project aims to discover mechanisms and enzymes responsible for the turnover of lignocellulose in these habitats. Such conversion has potential links to denitrification, and (gaseous) denitrification intermediates. Previous microbial enrichments and meta-omics experiments within the research team provide a basis for the discovery of enzymes potentially responsible for key functions during degradation under these conditions. Tomorrow marks the start of my university exams, and my first paper is on cell biology. It's funny because I'm revisiting the same topics I memorized back in 11th grade— prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells, plant and animal cells , cell organelles like the Golgi body, endoplasmic reticulum, nucleus, and even the origin and evolution of life. Seriously, why does it feel like I'm stuck in a loop?😭 What’s more, this isn’t just a one-semester thing; I’ve been studying these concepts since semester 1, and here I am in semester 3, still diving into the same material!
