We're looking back over the past 12 months at the moment and reviewing on the impact of activities over this time, and I hope all teams get a chance to pause and do this because it genuinely gives you the energy and determination to keep going when you see how far you've travelled and difference made, even in the face of obstacles. Just looking at some of the feature work that's been shipped on PetRescue.com.au, from just simple idea turned into feature, it's resulted in a potential of 24,074+ hours collectively in time saved (conservative estimate) by the rescue community who could then spend that precious, limited time to care for pets and save lives. That's... almost 3 years....(!!) it's somewhat unbelievable. (corrected from an earlier stats whoopsie) And did the feature save time and also work as intended? Here's an example of how a simple feature can make a difference to a life - pets with profiles that have been written using an AI assistant we built into PetRescue have found homes 14% faster - now, THAT'S tech for good! While we recognise that not all things can be measurable to an exact metric, we can certainly predict the opportunity in what these things could mean in precious time saved, and perhaps most powerful; the knowledge that your work and effort put in has helped made a positive difference... is what keeps us going ♥️

Cannes Lions: It's that time of year again, and the Rogue Bees are out in force. 😎 "Rogue Bees" is such a useful idea, popularised by the inimitable Rory Sutherland. It resonates deeply in the world of creativity. Rogue bees are those daring honeybees - yes, actual little buzzing hardworking bees 🐝 - whose whole job is to COMPLETELY IGNORE their genetically hardwired mission to find nectar and instead seek out new and unexpected sources. In bee world, most follow the poetically-named waggle dance to known sources of pollen. But these rogues ignore the dance, and zigzag off to discover unknown riches. There aren't many of them, but their role is vital, and it means the hive both survives and thrives. The point is simple: if we all played it safe, we'd never discover anything new. Flying in a metaphorical straight line leads to mediocrity, and never seeing the yet unseen. Pushing the boundaries – like our honeybee friends – redefines what’s possible and uncovers unthinkable solutions.🍭 People have said smarter things about this idea and managing risk, but for me, the best of it is about creativity and staying curious. 😉 Those tiny creative rebels have got their pollen-covered bums all over this years' entries.
