Black women’s leadership in the workplace is often met with the same challenges Vice President Kamala Harris faces on the national stage: A constant pursuit of visibility, credibility, and validation, often before receiving the support needed to thrive. Too often, Black women must prove ourselves two, three, or even four times over before we are granted the recognition and support we deserve. Despite our qualifications, we contend with stereotypes, skepticism, and a critical gaze that questions our leadership at every turn. This experience is far too common in organizations, where Black women are asked to lead, solve problems, and drive impact without the resources, mentorship, sponsorship or acknowledgment given to our counterparts. Yet, our contributions are transformative. 💁🏾♀️ This dynamic must be shifted by recognizing and supporting Black women’s leadership potential early and consistently in our workplaces. Our success fuels the success of our organizations, and we all thrive when organization’s invest in our growth and potential. Thanks to Chantell Frazier, Ph.D. for sharing this article. #liftingasweclimb2024 #BlackWomenLead #hireblack

Reflecting on a week well spent and a week where I prioritised activities that fed me professionally and personally. I’ve posted about the Conscious Leadership Summit but what I’m yet to post about is the inaugural Trusted Black Girl Network dinner on 27 June. In a gorgeous urban oasis in the heart of Brixton myself and a group of Black women came together to discuss the topic “who has the right to hold Black women accountable?” Unsurprisingly the conversation was also about rejuvenation and susterhood and resilience. We reflected, commiserated, celebrated and affirmed each other’s experiences and connected over shared experiences and I hate to say the shared trauma of being Black women in the workplace where micro and macro aggressions co time to rear their ugly heads. As I close my reflections I’ll leave you with two questions we reflected in and the answer to the question posed at the dinner. 1. Who are you? Beyond your job title and your qualifications who are you truly? 2. Looking back over the past few months what are you proud of achieving? And in response to the central question? Who has the right to hold Black womenaccouhtable? No One In the short answer - clearly more to unpack and you’ll be able to find insights on the new Trusted Black Girl website coming soon! Next event is 31 July summer meet up for all (not just Black women) #dinner #events #accountability #coaching #leadership

I am going to speak some truths here. Truths that we, as Black women in leadership, rarely hear or tell ourselves. So I am here - to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and I am saying it with my whole chest! You are in your role because you deserve it. You do not need to prove yourself to anyone. You don't need to accept the Titanic project to receive external validation from peers, line management, or anyone else. You don't need to work the weekend because you want to show them you can always go above and beyond. Stop looking for what you don't need. Start focusing on what you need to get to your future-self next level, not prove why you deserve to be where you are. Proving yourself for the role you are in presently is redundant. You're good at what you do. Now, start owning it. Are you ready to stop looking for external validation? We support our members to see themselves for who they are: Black women in leadership who are GREAT at what they do. Black women in leadership who can clearly communicate who they BE and the value they provide. Black women in Leadership who move strategically without apology. Ready to own your value? Ready to join The Compass Club? I know you answered Yes. Join our monthly Q&A session on Tuesday, June 11th, at 7.30 pm. Get all your questions answered about the why, what, and how of The Compass Club. Secure your seat here: https://lnkd.in/dMRH8SCn Looking forward to seeing you there. Alternatively, if you can't wait till then, DM us with your queries, and we will get back to you. #ownyourvalue #knowyourworth #blackwomeninleadership #blackfemaleleaders #blacklinkedin #selfleadership #personaldevelopment #professionalsuccess

After attending a LinkedIn Live webinar titled "Black Leadership: Transforming Organizations, Building Equity", I started reflecting on the narratives surrounding Black leaders—especially Black women. What stories do we tell about who should lead, and why are many of those stories filled with doubt or resistance when Black women step into leadership roles? Black women bring with them a narrative rooted in community, care, resilience, and resourcefulness—skills honed through lived experiences, often managing their own household's P&L statement with limited resources. Despite these strengths, the narratives surrounding their leadership are frequently met with discomfort or unfamiliarity from others. This is the story we need to change. How do we breathe new life into leadership narratives? How do we create stories that celebrate and elevate Black women for the unique qualities they bring to the table? These stories are essential—not just for equity, but for unlocking the potential within organizations to innovate and grow. Supporting Black women in leadership isn’t just a goal—it’s a necessity. I want to help rewrite the stories that define who leads, how they lead, and why their leadership is crucial to building stronger, more equitable organizations. #LeadershipLessons #Blackleaders #Narratives
