Our colleagues volunteered their time to support the City of Trees initiative in Greater Manchester, planting 45 trees and re-mulching 117 others to help enrich our local green spaces. Jonathan Randles, our Environment and Sustainability Manager, said, "Another fantastic day of green volunteering with Manchester City of Trees. A group of BYES employees spent an enjoyable day in the November sunshine in Ashton Under Lyne maintaining and planting whips (young tree saplings). All commented that they gained from the experience in helping to restore the tree population in the local area." This initiative aligns with our ongoing efforts to promote #sustainability and contribute to the long-term health and wellbeing of our local communities. #CSR #TreePlanting

Did you know that April is officially ‘Earth Month’? 🌍 Earth Month is a time dedicated to raising awareness and taking action to protect our planet, and throughout April, people and businesses around the world engage in activities aimed at promoting environmental conservation and sustainability. The impact our business has on the environment and our local community here in the North West of England in particular, is always on our mind and part of our wider CSR focus. However, we wanted to do something a bit special this year – our SIXTIETH in business – that has a direct impact on the environment in which we operate, and where our staff and their families live. We have therefore committed to planting 60 trees as part of the wonderful City of Trees initiative - a community forest charity for the Greater Manchester area who plant trees 'for people; trees to create better, greener places; to boost health and wellbeing; to enhance green skills; and to tackle the climate and biodiversity emergency 🌳🌳🌳 The charity is based and works within the Greater Manchester area and launched in November 2015, as part of the Community Forest Trust (CFT) , and helps to fund a wide range of projects including community tree planting, woodland maintenance, and flood management. #earthmonth #corporatesocialresponsibility #60yearsinbusiness #ukmanufacturer #sustainability

Lots of thoughtful and useful insights at the launch of today’s #RACEreport. It’s an embarrassing fact that the environment and conservation professions are amongst the least diverse in the UK. The RACE Report was created to focus on charities and funders working on environmental and conservation issues, highlighting the need for greater representation in sustainability and climate action. My big take away was the need for actions and progress to be “transformational not transactional” and the need to resource this area of work better and the importance of transparency and accountability. There is an urgent need to break down systematic barriers and start to shift power. We have done lots of work on inclusion at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, implementing lots of initiatives to begin to break down barriers to entry to the sector. We are now ready to build on that work. More on that soon…. It would be good to hear from other organisations / individuals taking positive action and trying to drive change. #RaceEqualityWeek #RaceReport #diversityequityinclusion https://lnkd.in/eYMeaENW

Our Climate Positive Workforce took to Tree Planting for our recent Wellness Wednesday 🌳 Part of the team went to Godalming last week, to volunteer in a tree-planting day with Protect Earth 🌍 they got their hands dirty and made friends with some dogs along the way 🐶 Each of them thoroughly enjoyed their day on the farm and working with Protect Earth, a registered charity dedicated to planting as many trees as possible in the UK to help mitigate the climate crisis 🤝 We are passionate about doing as much as we can to take climate action, partnering with Ecologi | B Corp™ to help fund carbon offset projects and tree planting around the world 🌱 Every Park Avenue employee contributes 5 trees a month and every placement we make is another 5 trees 🥳 We're keen to hear more ways in which we can further improve our climate positivity as a workforce, in the office and outside! Events can be incredibly wasteful. We at The Bite Project are extremely conscious of it at every event we deliver. It was while running an event catering business that Ronni Kahn, founder of OzHarvest, noticed the waste and decided to do something about it. This is why OzHarvest, for us, is a perfect fit for our T-time team days. (T-time is short for thoughtful time and is a day every year we take as a team and as individuals to do something thoughtful). Getting your people together to do something like this is a great way to: ⚡ bond - teamwork is the dreamwork ⚡ inspire - team feeling flat? Get them out together doing something different ⚡ reiterate core values - sustainability is a key part of our value - thoughtful - this provided the team with hands-on experience with this 👇 This is some amazing team being, inspiration, and thoughtfulness right here.
At The Bite Project we offer a free day to our people each year to use for their own thoughtful activity, e.g. cultural, creative, educational, volunteering, family time etc. We call it T-time, a.k.a “thoughtful time”. We also have an annual team T-Time where we all get together to do an activity. This year it was a team volunteering day. Doing volunteering as a team can be a great way to encourage staff to volunteer without them having to organise it off their own back - and by showing them it’s a company commitment that leadership are on board with (not just lip service). This year the team headed over to Port Melbourne to do “Cooking for a Cause” with OzHarvest. This is a great initiative as it has a range of important benefits - education, helping the environment and assisting those in need. We learnt about zero-waste cooking, sustainability…and some handy cooking skills. During our session our team was able to make use of surplus food rescued from landfill to make gourmet meals. These were then sent off to feed people in vulnerable communities. Learning that Australians throw 1 in every 5 grocery bags in the bin has definitely made me think about food waste at home more seriously. It was a nice way to get out of the office, connect with the team and feel good doing something that helps a very worthy cause. 💪 Achievements 17 sticky date puddings 69 mushroom & veg pockets 60ish people fed 10kg of food rescued from landfill Organising a team day for a cause that aligns with everyone’s values is a great way to give back - and have fun while doing it. #volunteering #teambuilding #cookingforacause #ozharvest #sustainability

Great morning talking on BBC Radio Derby about community Garden week 📻🌳 Wet and cold morning but still in shorts! 🕺🏋️ We have businesses volunteer opportunities 😃! Here are some benefits ( get involved!): 1. **Mental Health**: Green spaces have been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. They provide a calming environment that promotes relaxation and well-being. 2. **Physical Health**: Access to green spaces encourages physical activity such as walking, jogging, or gardening, which can improve cardiovascular health, reduce the risk of obesity, and boost overall fitness levels. 3. **Social Interaction**: Green spaces often serve as gathering places for communities, fostering social interaction, and a sense of belonging. This can lead to increased social support and a stronger sense of community cohesion. 4. **Environmental Benefits**: Green spaces contribute to environmental sustainability by absorbing carbon dioxide, improving air quality, and providing habitat for wildlife. They also help mitigate the urban heat island effect and reduce water runoff. 5. **Cognitive Benefits**: Spending time in green spaces has been linked to improved cognitive function, including better concentration, memory, and creativity. This can benefit both children and adults alike. Overall, being in a green space offers a multitude of benefits for both physical and mental well-being, as well as for the environment and community cohesion. We strongly believe mountains have the power to transform lives, connect people, and inspire greater responsibility in our personal lives and businesses. Our dedicated non-profit partners make the joy of mountain sports more accessible to marginalized and historically excluded populations, contribute to conservation efforts, and promote political engagement for effective climate policy. Here are some examples of Mammut’s community engagement in supporting impactful organizations like: - American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA): We support the AMGA's BIPOC Scholarship and Women’s Scholarship, helping to break down barriers and promote diversity in the guiding profession. - ClimbAID: This non-profit brings the joy and benefits of climbing to communities affected by war and poverty, focusing on mental health, social integration, and personal development. We are honoured to be their primary partner since 2020, providing equipment, financial support, and volunteers. - Protect Our Winters Switzerland (POW): Founded by professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones, POW advocates for stricter climate legislation to protect our planet. In 2023, Mammut joined forces with Patagonia to support the Swiss Outdoor Coalition, part of POW Switzerland's broader advocacy strategy. I’ve loved helping Hubbub launch their Nature Hubs fund and winners and seeing some of the amazing projects up and running all over the country. On a personal note, community gardening is a topic very close to my heart. Not only am I part of the allotment-holding community, I also volunteer in a primary school, teaching kids how to grow food and look after nature. Every week I witness the pure joy these children feel from seeing their seeds germinate, observing insects and even sampling elderflower cordial from the elderflowers they’ve picked. We need to create a foundation for children to protect and work with nature in the future and I truly believe school and community gardening can play a big role in this. Academic research shows how access to gardens at school can help promote pro-conservation behaviour among pupils. So why is it not more of a priority considering the huge environmental challenges we’re facing? Well there’s no money. Most teachers aren’t trained in this area and just don’t have the capacity. Parent volunteers are scarce as they too are under pressure to work all hours and many don’t have the basic gardening skills needed. I don’t know what the answer is but I can’t help but feel there are solutions out there (local retired garden enthusiasts working with schools?). They just need resource and funding. I do hope the new government takes action on this… but I’m not holding my breath. In the meantime, it’s brilliant to see companies like Starbucks fund community gardening projects and help more people access green space and get closer to nature. Wouldn’t it be great for more of the private sector to help boost school gardening too?
There are 100 reasons to spend time in nature. 🌿 From getting creative inspiration, to channeling your inner hunter-gatherer. 🦣 I get my fix from running through the parks of North London, seeing how the seasons change and letting my mind float along the way. 🧠 Today Hubbub is announcing 100 more: the winners of The Nature Hubs Fund. We’ve just funded 100 community nature projects across the country with grants of up to £6k thanks to the Starbucks 5p Cup Charge. All 100 #NatureHubs are unique. Things like: • Greening a car park at the aquarium in Hull 🐡 • A community garden on a housing estate in Sheffield 🧑🌾 • Woodland restoration (with a creative writing twist) in Worcester 📝 All will bring nature closer to people and people closer to nature. 🔄 Our polling shows that 37% of people in the UK spend less than an hour a week in nature. We're celebrating 100 more reasons to do so with this video. (Spot two of my kids in it at the start!) 🧒 If you want to talk about how to fund and support community-led green space, do drop me a line 📧 ++ P.S. I'm CEO of environmental charity Hubbub. We bring business, government and civil society together to create campaigns that inspire & support people to make choices that are good for the environment.
