The holiday season is a time for joy, but for those living with haemochromatosis, it can also bring added challenges. Iron overload can affect your energy levels, joints, and overall well-being, making it harder to enjoy the festivities. But with a little planning, you can make the most of this time of year while managing your condition 🎄 Energy Levels: Haemochromatosis can lead to fatigue, so it’s important to listen to your body. Take breaks, rest when needed, and don’t overexert yourself during busy holiday preparations 🍽️Festive Foods: While Christmas dinners can be tempting, they often include iron-rich foods like red meats and iron-fortified desserts. Stick to lean proteins (like turkey) and enjoy plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Avoid overindulging in iron-heavy treats like Christmas puddings and mince pies. 💪Stay Active: The cold weather can make outdoor activities less appealing, but it’s still important to stay active! Gentle indoor exercises like yoga, Pilates, or even light stretching can help keep you moving without straining your joints 🩺Get Checked: Before the holidays, make sure you’ve had your iron levels checked. If you’ve been feeling unwell or suspect haemochromatosis, it’s important to get tested before your doctor’s office closes for the season. 🎁Fundraising and Support: If you’re feeling generous this season, consider donating to the Irish Haemochromatosis Association. Your support helps fund vital awareness campaigns, advocacy, and patient services ensuring more families get the information, help and support they need. Let’s enjoy a healthy, happy holiday season together while managing haemochromatosis. #HaemochromatosisAwareness #HealthyHoliday #IronOverload #Haemochromatosis #GetChecked #SupportIHA #ChristmasHealth #WinterWellness #ManagingHaemochromatosis #HolidaySeason #Fundraiser

Although you must follow through with certain behaviors when you’re seeking to live a healthier life style, many experts believe that healthy behaviors have their roots in your mind. Consider these mind strategies to galvanize your efforts for a healthy lifestyle: • Think about the connections between a healthy lifestyle and a happy life • Make it a personal goal to become physically and emotionally stronger • Recognize your prior life successes • Consider what’s good and positive about your life right now • Realize that you can enjoy the flavors and foods you want in moderation • Live life consciously • Have faith and confidence in yourself • Take it one day at a time • Renew your commitment to your own health each day #healthylifestyle #LeadByExample #bethechange #encouragementfoundation #sunshinecoast #charity

Well today is the day; It's 01 May and the Mega Miles Challenge begins. They often say that the hardest step in any exercise regime is the first one - but let's not look at it like that. It's not a regime but instead an opportunity to do something important for the good of my health. It's amazing how all those little steps can add-up to something MEGA. I've already covered a distance of around 5miles today (and it only lunchtime). I've been for a morning walk, on the way into work, went to the pharmacy to collect some medication, and then walked to hunt-down some lunch. All this this activity, paired with the usual wandering around the office (often looking slightly lost), all adds up. It's important that we recognise that being MEGA isn't about walking hundreds, if not thousands, of miles, Nor is it about being super-fit and a active champion. Instead, it is about doing something MEGA for you. I've become unfit, and spend around 12hours a day sat at my desk, and then some more sitting around at home (in front of the TV). Who can blame me? Its a long working day and I'm just tired; but this is all impacting negatively on my physical and mental wellbeing. So for me, and me alone, being MEGA is about breaking the mould and getting out and about to look after my mental and physical wellbeing. What does MEGA mean to you? #MegaMilesChallenge #NationalWalkingMonth #Fundrasing Donations welcomed here: https://lnkd.in/gHeNyU4g

Easy December Self & Community Care Routine ❤️❤️❤️ Ok… easy is relative but I’m looking at easy as free or low cost options, things you typically want to do and this list is giving you validation (or excuse), or things that give you the most return for your efforts. 🎉 Prioritize sitting with those you haven’t seen in the longest amount of time. In-person is best but Zoom or FaceTime is second best. The social benefits to health are clear and those you haven’t seen in the longest amount of time will act as mirrors of your progress and backsliding. 🍎Buy a bunch of your favorite apples (organic , if possible) and eat one in the morning and one at night. With each apple, drink 12 oz of liquid. With the exception of alcohol, sodas and energy drinks, any drink is fine. Tea without sugar and water are best. Feel free to add herbs, lemon juice, botanicals, CBD, aromatics and other things that make you happy. Try to keep this up for the entire month. 💝Give what you can. Donate, purge and/or volunteer. Mental health benefits are measurable in this space. If you have much to give, donate money, food, clothing. If you need to declutter, purge til you feel something. If you have little to give, volunteer time or give what feels good to you. Decluttering heals your brain and giving is one of the easiest ways to activate the law of attraction. The universe is abundant. #selfcare #collectivecare #traumainformed #winter #Q4

As September draws to a close and we see the arrival of dark evenings, you may find this video of interest, which promotes the benefit of good sleep. Those who have developed their mental toughness are aware of the power of sleep and put the knowledge to good use. This month marks the annual campaign of The Sleep Charity in promoting awareness of good sleep, and the current campaign focuses on the benefits for the workforce. I have also written about the benefits of good sleep on my blog, which you may find of interest as well; I'll drop the link to my website blog in the comments below. #sleeptember #mentaltoughness #sleep #sleepforSafety
