According to many authors, the incidence of osteomyelitis in the world is increasing, doubling its rate between the 1960s and the 2010s. Despite the growing number of publications in this area, this disease still represents a major challenge for orthopedists around the world. This study aimed to highlight the continued importance and utility of plain radiography as a rapid, cost-effective, and readily accessible examination in the diagnostic process. Our study shows that radiographic findings in chronic osteomyelitis were universally observed in all patients studied, demonstrating a high degree of concordance among specialists. #osteomyelitis, #boneinfection, #musculoskeletaldisorders https://lnkd.in/ez7ypaqK

Primary care physicians correctly diagnose #alzheimer’s disease about 61% of the time. Neurologists have an accuracy rate of about 73%. A new blood based test, relying on the pTau217 assay from ALZpath Inc., can accurately identify about 90% of cases. This is a great example of the importance of molecular #biomarkers, but it doesn’t stop there. Teal Omics is using molecules in the blood as a starting point to explore the complex networks that are impacted by diseases of #aging in order to develop more effective treatments than the ones that are available to patients today. Together, the field is moving toward a more sophisticated understanding of disease processes and the best ways to treat them. https://lnkd.in/g4h5tx4J

When it came time to choose a medical specialty, Rohit Aggarwal, MD, MS, had some criteria: “I was drawn to complex, multi-system diseases that affect multiple organs… and for which there are little or no treatment options,” he recalls. Put another way: “I was looking for a challenge,” he says. Those criteria led him to rheumatology and autoimmune disorders, and then specifically to myositis. Early on, Dr. Aggarwal saw a need for more research and treatments for myositis patients. His purpose was always clear: “How can I bring the maximum amount of help to the maximum number of patients?" 🔗 Read our Rare Leaders Spotlight "Improving Access to Specialized Care: Dr. Rohit Aggarwal is on a mission to connect more myositis patients to experts nationwide" on The Know Rare Blog: https://lnkd.in/g8UPAica - #myositis #myositisawareness #medicalresearch #clinicalresearch #raredisease #rarediseaseawareness #KnowRare

Scleroderma is a rare rheumatic disease that affects connective tissue and the vascular system producing excessive collagen that causes fibrosis in the skin or in internal organs. The result can be disfigurement and disability, and for some it’s life-threatening. The cause is unknown and there is no cure. A diagnosis of scleroderma doesn’t have to be overwhelming, even though the disease is complex. An experienced rheumatologist who specializes in scleroderma is key to a quick and proper diagnosis that leads to treatment that may help minimize symptoms and decrease the chance of irreversible damage. A few organizations that can help you with your diagnosis and/or treatment are: The Waiting Room Entertainment, Project Scleroderma, Scleroderma Research Foundation, Scleroderma United, and National Scleroderma Foundation. #scleroderma #sayscleroderma #rise4rare #rarediseasediversity #raiseawareness #zebrastrong

8moWonderful read!! We definitely see a rise in Chronic Osteomyelitis in clinical practice. India shows a slow progressive rise in cases and about 50% of the cases have radiographic findings . The rise in Chronic Osteomyelitis is directly proportional to poor clinical suspicion as well as delay in medical care . The rise of Diabetes and the rise of Road Traffic Accidents are probable causes . An X Ray of the involved limb is a basic investigation that must be made mandatory for early diagnosis.
