Islamic principles emphasise economic justice and societal well-being, with Maqasid al-Shariah (objectives of Islamic law) prioritising the protection of human life, including safeguarding people from harmful economic practices. In Nigeria, inflation has led to a significant rise in food prices, placing a heavy burden on vulnerable communities. The Islamic Market in Iwo, Osuna State, established by Sheikh Daood Imran Molasan, Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta and the President of the Jamaat Taawunil Muslimeen, seeks to mitigate this by offering essential goods at fair prices. https://lnkd.in/ddEanJ5n

I'm happy to share my latest publication, co-authored with Nabamita Dutta (my fellow Menard Family Initiative co-director at UW-La Crosse) and Saibal Kar at the Center for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta. In this paper, using an Indian context, we find that greater economic freedom in the form of less regulation and better legal systems and property rights can help reduce perceived corruption from Indian firms. The benefits are greater for small firms and young firms, where corruption may be preventing them from growing and becoming well established. However, older firms actually perceive higher corruption in Indian states with greater economic freedom, suggesting that the increased competition that comes with greater economic freedom may lead to these older firms paying more bribes and engaging more with corrupt officials. 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗗 𝗠𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧! I am happy to announce that our recent research paper, "Digitalization of Corporate Governance on Ethical Standards in the Nigeria Public Sector," has been published. Our study explores how #digitization impacts corporate governance and how it affects ethical principles in Nigeria's public sector. We looked at how new digital technologies are improving accountability, ethics, and transparency within traditional governance structures. Notable features includes an evaluation of contemporary corporate governance, the function of digitalization in advancing ethical guidelines, factual information, and suggestions for legislators. This study reflects a major advancement in Nigeria's digital transformation-driven governance structures. #Authors: ¹Godwin I.
