NATIONAL PANDA DAY On March 16, National Panda Day draws attention to one of the world's unique bears. Pandas are also one of the world's most endangered and adored animals. Conservationists and animal lovers alike spread the word about the increasing efforts of the international community dedicated to protecting and restoring habitats. #NationalPandaDay Native to China, giant pandas are members of the Bear (Ursidae) family. Their rapidly shrinking habitat is a major cause for concern. As an endangered species, successful panda breeding programs are rare. In the wild, there are approximately only 1,864 (according to the World Wide Fund for Nature) and 100 living in zoos around the world.

Proposed Nuremburg Zoo Baboon Cull Highlights Hypocrisy of Zoo “Conservation Efforts” Devan Schowe; Born Free USA, February 26, 2024 “Zoos breeding animals in captivity to either force them to live out a life sentence for human entertainment or kill them in the name of “conservation” must be stopped. Animals in zoos are bred in captivity, never to be released into the wild. This is not conservation. Zoos cannot conserve species or meaningfully educate visitors about animals so long as they keep them in artificial environments in perpetuity or kill them when zoo staff fail them. Killing “surplus” animals only teaches people that animals, even those threatened with extinction, are disposable. Animals have evolved for millennia to be more than “surplus,” “unsuitable,” “overrepresented,” or “useless,” as defined by humans. All animals represent integral parts of their habitats, with roles to fulfill, food to be eaten, families to be made, choices to be executed, and time to be spent—however they choose.” Article: https://lnkd.in/gi8qxtZ4 #captiveconservation #TheConservationGameMovie #nomorezoos

Big hopes ride on the tiny backs of captive-bred Vancouver Island marmots as researchers continue to rebuild the fragile population of one of the world’s most endangered mammals. This year’s release of captive-bred yearlings will be around the Mount Washington Alpine Resort area and in colonies on both sides of Buttle Lake in Strathcona Park. Some of the releases in hard-to-access areas will be done via helicopter, with specialists hiking up to meet aircraft full of marmot boxes. The Island’s unique marmot species hit a low point of fewer than 30 animals in 2003. Breeding programs and habitat-protection projects have helped to bring populations back from the brink of extinction to 303 animals living at 30 sites. The recovery effort was initiated in 1997 by a group of partners including the Marmot Recovery Foundation, the province of B.C., the Toronto Zoo, Calgary Zoo, Mount Washington, and timber companies like Mosaic Forest Management. 🐾 It's Wildlife Wednesday and that means we are taking a look at another super cute aussie animal. This week we're getting to know the "Numbat". Here are five amazing facts about this amazing endangered marsupial. 🐜 Unique diet: The Numbat exclusively eats termites, consuming up to 20,000 a day. They have a specialised sticky tongue that is used to collect termites from narrow cavities in logs, leaf litter and small holes in the ground. 🦷 Irregular teeth: Unlike other mammals, Numbats do not have proper teeth for chewing. Their teeth are small blunt "pegs" because they do not need to chew their food. 🌞 Strictly diurnal: Numbats are only active during the day and their activity levels are closely tied to the availability of termites. During colder winter months, they rise late to feed and are active for only a few hours during the warmer part of the day when termites are more active. 😢 Threats to survival: The Numbat's habitat is under threat from land clearing, development, and mining activities, as well as introduced predators such as foxes and feral cats. There are currently less than 1,000 Numbats left in the wild. ❤️ Conservation efforts: To protect this endangered species, conservation efforts such as predator control and habitat protection are necessary. Captive breeding programs at places like Perth Zoo also play a crucial role in increasing the Numbat's population. We're proud as punch to share the birth of nine Fat-tailed Dunnart joeys! This is the biggest litter of dunnarts born at Adelaide Zoo and an important win for conservation of the species. A key challenge in the conservation of Fat-tailed Dunnarts is their short life span, with the native marsupials only living to two years old. Short-lived species can be pushed to extinction very quickly. These little ones will help bolster an insurance population so we can prevent the species from being lost when wild populations comes under threat. The learnings from this successful breeding program can also be drawn on if emergency intervention is required for other dunnart species, like the Kangaroo Island Dunnart. #Conservation #NativeAnimals

#CMSCOP14 | Migratory behaviour is found in all major taxonomic groups of animals, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects. The reasons why animals migrate are complex and can be driven by a combination of factors, including tracking of seasonal resources and favourable climatic conditions, and seeking optimal breeding sites. While many animal migrations occur in a regular and predictable pattern, some animal migrations can happen irregularly over longer timeframes, depending on the species and their specific ecological requirements. Some species, such as sea turtles, undertake long solitary migrations, while others migrate collectively in vast numbers. #WetlandConservation #WetlandsMatter

The maximum lifespan of a hippo is about 30 years in the wild and 40 to 50 years in captivity.
#AnimalTransportation Did you know that February 15 is World Hippo Day? As a pioneer in animal transportation, we are proud of our experience and achievements. Among them, we have been in charge of transporting hippos, known for their enormous bodies and considered "the strongest in the animal kingdom" and "the strongest creature on earth". For large animals such as hippos, it is very important to choose a route that minimizes the transportation time and burden on the animal, since the number of airplanes that can transport them is limited and the quarantine station at the arrival point is also limited. So, do you know what the maximum lifespan of a hippo is? Let us know in the comments if you know! We will continue supporting breeding projects worldwide and help preserve biodiversity through transportation. #Hankyu #Hanshin #Express #Logistics #GlobalLogistics #Transport #Transportation

Whether an animal is protected or not depends not only on its species but also on its specific type. Take the deer, for example—there are many types, and not all of them are classified as protected under Indonesian law. Their conservation and utilization differ, making it essential for us to be mindful of preserving their existence. During our field trip last June, our team Rusdian Hafiz, Maudy Miya Andini, Dinda Farras Haniya, and Rasya Jauhar was fortunate enough to witness the Sambar Deer up close at the Lamandau breeding center. Dive deeper into this exploration below! #iHiConsulting #Deer #Animal #Conservation #Awareness

Red wolves are the most critically endangered species of canine, with only 20 estimated to be in the wild. In 2018, the red wolf was named one of the Association of Zoo and Aquariums’ (AZA) SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) species. The SAFE program focuses the collective expertise within AZA-accredited institutions to maintain a healthy and viable population of red wolves under human care and leverages their audiences to save species by growing education and awareness efforts, and aiding research vital to supporting recovery and management. Captive breeding saved the red wolf from extinction and is an essential component of red wolf recovery. We are proud to participate in the AZAs’ Red Wolf SAFE program. If our red wolves Evie and Waya reproduce, it is possible that their pups will be released to help this beautiful species regain a foothold in the wild. #EndangerdSpeciesDay #WeAreAZA #SpeciesSurvival #SAFE #RedWolf #Syracusezoo #Syracuse #CNY #ConservationInAction #ConservationEducation #OnondagaCounty #OnondagaCountyParks
