Euro-CASE, the European Network of Academies of Engineering Sciences just published its position paper and recommendations for FP10 (2027-2034), the successor to @Horizon-Europe: the world's leading research funding program. 3 key recommendations: - Beyond the necessary increase in the budget, a more agile programming system supervised by scientists is needed - The program should integrate funding instruments for communication and scientific mediation in order to bring science-society dialogue closer together. A target of 1% of R&D effort in communication would be desirable - The gap with the USA in terms of venture capital must be reduced and barriers should be removed European Commission Académie des technologies Tuula Teeri Michael Matlosz Nadia Pipunic Patrick PELATA Manoelle Lepoutre

World Intellectual Property Day 2024 is a momentous occasion, celebrated globally on April 26, where we recognize the pivotal role of intellectual property (IP) in fueling human innovation and creativity. This year’s theme is “IP and the SDGs: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity.” The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as a roadmap for a better future, addressing critical issues such as climate change, poverty, education, and more. However, progress toward these goals has been sluggish, with only 15%of the SDGs currently on track. To reignite progress, we must harness the power of IP as a catalyst for innovation and creativity in service of the SDGs. WIPO Director General Daren Tang aptly stated, “From electric vehicles to lifesaving drugs, clean and green tech, to AI and digital technologies – IP can be the vehicle to turn bold new ideas into real-world impact.” Let us unite on this World IP Day to leverage the power of IP and build a better world for all. Let’s celebrate the boundless possibilities that IP brings to life, propelling us toward a stronger, shared common future! 🌟🚀🌏

Continuing our mini clip series on the motivational “Harnessing the Humanities for Human Security” panel at the World Academy of Art and Science conference, co-organised by UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition on May 16 ‘24. Diana Ayton-Shenker’s heartening words on the paradigm shift we are already in, from an extractive system, noted by the key drivers to “contain, control, conquer; into a regenerative system, with the key drivers to empathise, collaborate, and co-create” resonates with the reminder from both Luci Attala and Mila Popovich that existence is relational and all life is interconnected. In our collective efforts of moving towards a sustainable development, of establishing human security for all, of truly flourishing; the actualisation of this paradigm shift, in our understanding, and in our actions, is crucial. See the clip here: https://lnkd.in/dthai3Qd The WAAS@64 international conference and general assembly continues online on 26 & 27 June. 🔥 Innovation in the Public Sector is TOUGH 🔥 Many public sector entities face structural barriers that stifle innovation and hinder responsiveness, like rigid protocols, limited resources, and complex bureaucracies that make it difficult to test and develop new ideas swiftly and effectively. Grit and effort is something, but how do we make the changes that make useful progress easier?
