📣 Save the Date: Evidence for Development (Evi4Dev) Conference – Nairobi, May 2025 Theme: Optimising the Role of Data, Evidence, and Innovations in Africa’s Efforts to Create Wealth, Empower Citizens, and Foster Responsive and Inclusive Governance With latest progress reports by the African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN) noting we are off track in meeting regional and global targets of development agendas, now is the time to centre research, data, and innovations to accelerate progress. The #Evi4Dev Conference brings together government officials, researchers, civil society practitioners, private sector representatives, and the media to deliberate on the status of science, technology and innovation (STI) and evidence-informed policymaking (EIP) in Africa, and how these can support in the implementation of the AU Agenda 2063 and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Mawazo is pleased to be a partner for the Evi4Dev Conference in May 2025, and looks forward to thought-provoking discussions and concerted efforts during and after the conference to ensure no one is left behind as we thrive for Africa’s socioeconomic transformation. 🎙️ 𝐌𝐮𝐤𝐡𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐢'𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐎𝐜𝐭 𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 CPDI's Executive Director, Mukhtar Ahmad Ali, delivered a thought-provoking address at the Pakistan Transparency Forum 2024, convened by Transparency International Pakistan to commemorate the International Day for Universal Access to Information. In his 18-minute lecture, he emphasized the crucial role of transparency, good governance, and access to information in fostering a just and equitable society. Mr. Mukhtar underscored the need for a systemic and cultural shift towards openness and accountability, highlighting the challenges Pakistan faces in transitioning from a culture of secrecy to one of transparency. Despite these hurdles, he acknowledged the progress made, such as the adoption of Article 19A of the Constitution. Mr. Mukhtar's address included valuable case studies that illustrated the practical implications of transparency and accountability. He also stressed the importance of public bodies, including the Supreme Court and High Court, adopting transparent practices within their structures. Moreover, he emphasized that the Right to Information (RTI) should not be treated as an add-on but rather as an integral component of every public body's operations, particularly in sectors like healthcare and education.
