This Scottish Careers Week, we're reminding employers to sign up to our Housing Professionalism Commitment which has been designed for housing providers to show that they value professionalism and education, and are acting to demonstrate this commitment through the continuing professional development of their staff. The four commitments are: 1. Commit to reporting on the professional development of housing staff as part of the Annual Assurance Statement process. 2. Ensure that training and qualifications for housing staff are written into your organisation’s business plans. 3. Commit to regular engagement with schools and learners about housing sector careers. 4. Promotion of the value of CPD across staff/customer boundaries. Not a housing provider? Why not sign up to our 'Supporters Pledge' for organisations that work in or closely with the housing sector but who don’t directly provide homes themselves. This includes, for example, contractors, suppliers, trade bodies, and membership organisations. Find out more and show your support here: https://lnkd.in/eQ7hHsZT

🌟 Discover first hand what the Job Start scheme holds with insights from our JP Corry team members, Hannah and Marcus! Dive into the video below for an inside look and uncover the opportunities awaiting you. #JPCorry #JobStart #OpportunityAwaits #CareerGrowth
It was great to see over 550 young people visit 2 Royal Avenue yesterday for our JobStart Meet the Employer event, where they had the chance to meet over 30 employers with JobStart opportunities in a wide range of roles. Thanks to a partnership between ourselves and Department for Communities, the free event, attended by our Lord Mayor and the Minister for Communities Gordon Lyons, also provided useful information on our Employment Academies, self-employment, the Gateway to Choices (G2C) service and the Condition Management Programme. It was all about helping young people in Belfast who are at risk of long-term unemployment or struggling to get a job - a key priority in our Belfast Agenda – and part of our employability and skills programme, #TakeTheNextStep. The diverse roles on offer spanned administration, childcare, customer service, distribution, health and social care, hospitality, logistics, marketing, sports coaching, transport, videography, youth work and warehousing. Watch this short video with Hannah Quirey, HR Advisor, JP Corry and Marcus Harvey, a JobStart graduate employed by JP Corry, to see what they thought. Following last month’s announcement of an unprecedented joint venture to create job and economic opportunities for Camden residents as part of Cooper’s $3 billion expansion, George E. Norcross III, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cooper University Health Care, announced that Cooper has begun an outreach program to Camden residents to sign up for job training opportunities. "When Camden’s renaissance began just over a decade ago, it was clear there were three things that needed to be done for the city’s future: dramatically improve public safety, expand access to high-quality education options and create economic opportunity for city’s residents,” said Norcross. “Programs like this unprecedented partnership with the Carpenters, as well as Camden Works, which disseminates a weekly listing of all job openings for every public and private city employer, are an important part of ensuring that Camden once again becomes a place where people not only want to live, but where they can start a well-paying career.” Click here to read more: https://ow.ly/tIZk50TMxhm

"It can be a challenge to re-enter the workforce after taking a prolonged career break for personal reasons (caregiving responsibilities, significant illness/disability or immigration to Canada). As part of our DEI strategy, we’ve created the Career Re-Entry Program – designed to provide flexible, part-time work for candidates, while Enbridge gets to tap into an overlooked demographic of talented professionals. Next up, attendees heard from Burnley College’s Cameron Barker-Allan on what the future workforce are looking for from employers. Cameron spoke of his own personal experiences in employment as well as his peers, plus the key things employers can implement today to increase their appeal to the younger generations entering the workforce - including the seemingly overlooked importance of rethinking your job titles when recruiting (including avoiding putting all support roles into the ‘admin’ category), and rewording things to appeal to a younger audience. There was a stress on meeting the non-negotiables for many entering the workforce - including a sense of responsibility from day one, a decent level of pay, and the ever-divisive ability to work from home. He also opened up the discussion of degree apprentices - how many roles in our local companies could fit the criteria and make use of the LEVY funding? #ChamberAssembly #ElectionSpecial #EmploymentLaw

THREE REASONS TEENS DON'T CONSIDER CAREERS IN THE TRADES. At FSG we spend a lot of time talking with service leaders about the challenges of bringing young people into our industry. Of course the problem is not just in foodservice-related trades, it is societal and even global. So we need to look across organizational boundaries for information and ideas. Here is a very focused (short) article from the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) that I think really hits the bullseye. See if you think that I'm right. https://lnkd.in/gpMapsri

I read the 298 pages of the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act so you don't have to... Here's what you need to know 👇 The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act or (WIOA) is the primary funding driver for a majority of the workforce development programs in the state. It has 5 main buckets which encompass almost all of the workforce development programs and services offered. Those buckets are: 1. Workforce Development Activities 2. Adult Education And Family Literacy 3. Wagner-Peyser Services 4. Vocational Rehabilitation 5. General Provisions WIOA is geared to serve jobseekers AND businesses. Jobseekers: - Unemployed/Underemployed - Seeking training - Facing barriers to employment (e.g., English as a second language, low income, recidivism, homelessness, basic skills deficiency) Businesses: - Placement Services - Job posting - Candidate screening - Events (job fairs, recruitment events, etc.) - Training Services - Incumbent Worker Training - Quick Response Training - Apprenticeship - Work-based learning - Other Services - Rapid Response/Layoff Aversion - Labor market research - Human Resource services - Federal Bonding and Work Opportunity Tax Credit This is a 50,000 foot overview of WIOA, what it is, and who it serves. There are additional programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) --> food stamps and, the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Welfare Transition Program. These have different funding sources but also utilize WIOA programs to help people get to a place of safety and stability. If you want more detail, I wrote an in depth article here: https://lnkd.in/gzS9v7JA
