Since June 2024, Conciliation Resources has been working with state and civil society partners in the Central African Republic (CAR) to implement a project aiming to integrate mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) into gender-sensitive peacebuilding programming. This month, experts and practitioners in MHPSS, #peacebuilding & gender gathered in CAR to develop a toolkit for training practitioners on how to integrate an MHPSS-sensitive approach to community engagement. The toolkit will support the work of practitioners in CAR to help people access mental health services and support referral systems. It aims to increase collaboration between different actors on MHPSS, and recognises the role of religious leaders and traditional healers in encouraging people to seek help. In honor of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, throughout July we will highlight studies and resources to deepen your practice. Today, we examine an idiographic study looking at six Muslim women from Afghanistan who resettled in Australia as refugees. The study followed them for a decade and examines the complex overwhelm and trauma of their refugee experiences, while also delving into their incredible post-trauma recovery and growth. This study highlights potential gender-specific traumas throughout the refugee journey for women and girls, and the need for specific delivery of services from program providers to this vulnerable group. Children living with the brutal effects of armed conflict are forced to manage difficult emotions - such as feelings of fear, distress and uncertainty. Many are refugees living far from home in unstable situations. Some psychological support is available - yet research suggests that simple movement-based activities could play a vital role in boosting these children’s wellbeing. We look at the evidence 🪁 ➡️ https://bit.ly/48R2B5D #evidencebased #innovation

Thrilled to speak about Sexual Violence Prevention on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025. This workshop is open to the public to anyone interested in learning more about gender and sexual violence, effective ways to support those impacted by violence and preventing further incidents from occurring. To learn more about the workshop and to register please go to: https://lnkd.in/eQuKgGg5 Advocating against gender and sexual violence prevention is something I am passionate about. The prevalence of gender and sexual violence at both schools and universities is concerning. Violence against women, children and individuals from LGBTQIA community permeates all societies and crosses race, religion and cultural boundaries. The rise in sexual violence is an epidemy that necessitates immediate action. Sexual violence has been predominantly seen as a “woman’s issue”. This view enables an attitude that “boys will be boys” to permeate and further adds to misconceptions about sexual violence The effects of sexual violence are extensive and long last lasting. It impacts the whole community. An individual’s psychological/socio-emotional and their cognitive performance do not exist in isolation and cannot be treated as such. On average 1 in 4 women, 1 in 6 men, 50% transgender people, 44% lesbians, 26% gay men and 1 in 5 bisexual people would have experienced sexual harassment, at least 1 sexual attack, rape, or physical violence in their life time. Education about consent, boundaries, and healthy relationships equips individuals with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and others. Empowerment through awareness is the first step in prevention. Every survivor has a story that deserves to be heard and validated. By prioritizing sexual violence prevention, we create a supportive environment that encourages survivors to come forward and seek help without fear of judgment. #SexualViolencePrevention #sexualviolence #genderviolence #education #empowerment #healthyrelationships #consent #Advocacy Association Genevoise des Ecoles Privées (AGEP)

Recent research on Gender-Based Violence indicates that while progress has been made in addressing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) needs for GBV survivors, significant gaps remain, particularly for younger girls and their caregivers in humanitarian and low-resource settings. It was therefore recommended that: 1. There is urgent need to strengthen intersectoral collaboration to address the psychosocial and protection needs of GBV survivors. 2. Expand MHPSS programming to include younger survivors and their caregivers. 3. Increase funding and research to fill gaps in understanding effective responses for different age groups. #Together we can end GBV#
