Today, on RU OK? Day, we take extra care to reflect on the importance of checking in with those around us. We know that mental health is just as important as physical health, especially in our industry where stress and pressure are constant. Suicide is the leading cause of death among Australian men aged 15 to 44, surpassing both car accidents and cancer. That’s why today’s message is so vital: checking in with a mate could make all the difference. Our Step Up and Check In initiative is all about connection, care, and supporting one another, as we encourage all our teams to take a break, connect with a colleague, and have meaningful conversations about how they’re doing. A special thanks to Kosta's Takeaway for generously donating coffees to all participants, reinforcing the importance of checking in. In addition to today’s efforts, we’re proud to be part of the STEPtember challenge, which not only focuses on physical health but also promotes mental health and team connection. We’re proud to be ranked in the top 5 in our industry for our efforts, having raised an impressive $6,445 and stepped a total of 4,508,482 steps so far! Here’s why we chose to step up: - 80% of participants see a positive impact on teamwork and connection. - 83% reports improvements in health and wellbeing. - 71% see increased awareness around accessibility, disability, equity, and inclusion. Together, we’re creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to make a difference – both inside and outside of work. Thank you for joining our efforts: https://lnkd.in/gFTaCABR #RUOKDay #Steptember #Teamwork #Wellbeing #MentalHealthMatters #Inclusion #ConnectingPeopleAndPlaces #Safety #WorldSuicidePreventionDay

“Ask R U OK?, Anyday!” What does this really mean? R U OK? is an Australian non-profit organization focused on suicide prevention and raising awareness. It advocates for having meaningful conversations with those experiencing emotional challenges, aiming to reduce social isolation and foster a sense of community and connection. This happens every 2nd Thursday of September. While R U OK? may have originated as an Australian initiative, but at Pentana Solutions, we proudly embrace this advocacy globally through THRIVE—our Health and Wellbeing program. We are dedicated to fostering meaningful connections and conversations within our organization, recognizing the importance of #MentalHealth on a global scale. Over the past few years, we have actively promoted this cause within the organization, encouraging our teams globally to engage in open dialogue and support one another. Many Australian companies with operations in the Philippines may have already integrated this advocacy into their local initiatives. #RUOKDay aligns well with any organization’s #Health and #Wellness efforts in the Philippines, providing an excellent opportunity to enhance mental health awareness and build a supportive workplace culture. This year’s theme, Ask R U OK? Anyday, reminds us that checking-in with each other should be part of our every day culture. This year, for the first time, we are excited to launch a dedicated R U OK? Day Awareness Week. Throughout the week, we will have specially themed days designed to spark meaningful conversations and encourage regular check-ins with colleagues across our global community. These initiatives are aimed at fostering connection, raising awareness, and creating a supportive environment for all. As a business, here’s what we have planned for our R U OK? Day Awareness Week:

We hosted our second Self-Care Sunday yesterday, and it was so wonderful to connect with our community who were joining from three different continents 🌍 Each Sunday we spend an hour together, with guided meditation, journaling, a self-care activity and a sharing circle. To close our Self-Care Sundays, we read a story aloud. Yesterday's story was a reminder that doing your best is good enough, and every tiny action adds up. 📚 The Hummingbird and the Forest Fire One day, a terrible fire broke out in a forest - a huge, roaring blaze that threatened to destroy everything in its path. All the animals gathered at the edge of the forest, feeling helpless as they watched their home being consumed by flames. The fire was too big, and they felt there was nothing they could do. Suddenly, a tiny hummingbird flew back and forth from the river to the fire, carrying a few drops of water in its beak each time. The other animals watched, confused and surprised by the little bird’s actions. "Little Hummingbird, what do you think you’re doing?" asked a large, concerned elephant. "The fire is far too big, and you’re far too small to make any difference!" The hummingbird paused for a moment, then turned to the elephant and said, "I’m doing the best I can." With that, the hummingbird continued flying back and forth, carrying tiny drops of water to the flames. Reflection Questions: 🌳What does this story suggest about the importance of individual efforts, even when the challenges seem insurmountable? 🌳In what ways can you be like the hummingbird in your work, volunteering or activism? 🌳How can a small but determined effort inspire others around you? Would you like an hour in your week to rest? To reflect on how you're really feeling? To spend 60 minutes away from your phone? Join us each Sunday. Come and look after your wellbeing with us. 🎟 https://lnkd.in/dkMxDB5m #thejoyfulactivists #charitywellbeing #humanitarianmentalhealth

The key takeaways from the event were that we have now entered a phase of acceptance and action. That we, as organisational leaders: · Better understand from research, that mental ill-health is prevalent within every team. · Acknowledge the importance of talking about mental ill-health in the workplace. · Can accept that how we feel at and about our work has a direct impact on our non-work relationships and wellbeing. · Can resolve that if we don’t invest and take proactive action in an evidence-informed way, there are direct financial and cultural impacts. · Accept that WHS regulation and the Positive Duty legislation is now clear for Directors and executive leaders, with clear penalties if we fail to meet our duty of care. Loneliness Awareness Week: Exploring the Link Between Loneliness and Perception of Anti-Social Behaviour This week is Loneliness Awareness Week, and it’s got us thinking here at Green & Burton ASB HQ… How much could loneliness play as a factor in the propensity to perceive behaviour as ASB? Loneliness is a growing concern in our society, affecting people of all ages and backgrounds. It’s a state of mind that can lead to various emotional and psychological challenges. When individuals feel isolated, they may be more sensitive to their surroundings and the actions of others. The Impact of Loneliness on Perception Loneliness can heighten our awareness of the world around us, sometimes in negative ways. When people are isolated, they may experience heightened anxiety and stress. This heightened emotional state can make them more susceptible to perceiving certain behaviours as threatening or bothersome, even if those behaviours might be considered normal or benign by others. The Connection to Anti-Social Behaviour Anti-social behaviour encompasses such a wide range of activities that can disrupt the quality of life in communities... These behaviours are however ultimately subjective, varying greatly depending on individual perspectives and tolerances. For someone experiencing loneliness, the threshold for what is considered anti-social might be lower. A noisy neighbour, a group of teenagers hanging out, or even the sound of a car alarm might be perceived more negatively by someone who is feeling isolated and disconnected from their community. Understanding the Context It’s crucial for those of us working in the field of ASB to consider the broader context of complaints and reports. Understanding the underlying factors, such as loneliness, can help us address issues more empathetically and effectively. By acknowledging the role of loneliness, we can better tailor our responses and support services to meet the needs of those who may be particularly vulnerable. As we observe Loneliness Awareness Week, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the invisible challenges that many individuals face. By understanding and addressing loneliness, we can create safer, more connected communities where everyone feels valued and heard. How does your organisation recognise and deal with loneliness?
