California's Colorado and Mojave deserts are among the last relatively intact ecosystems outside Alaska, boasting one-of-a-kind species and remarkable biodiversity. Thanks to the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), passed 60 years ago, and the California Desert Protection Act (CDPA) passed 30 years after, legislators helped establish a legacy of landscape preservation that allows organizations like MDLT to help conserve and steward these fragile landscapes. However, protections for California’s deserts could vanish if these funds and laws are rescinded in coming years. We must act now to avoid the loss of biodiversity and the desert’s iconic natural wonders. Natural resource management, conservation, land use and rural development are complex issues and more and more disputes and conflicts are expected to arise in the future. It lies at the heart of how Africa develops. In addition climate change and extreme weather events add to the challenges of finding solutions. These issues are central to what we do at WhyAfrica and what we identify, research and report upon during our annual WhyAfrica Road Trips through Africa. #whyafricaroadtrips #whyafrica #africa #endorphinexpedtions
A must-read for anyone interested in conservation in Tanzania, particularly recent conflicts between communities and the government. Also required reading for those interested in African conservation generally! https://lnkd.in/dFJWiD99

Natural Resource Management, Conservation, Environmental Management, Land Use Studies and Rural Development will become increasingly important for companies doing business in Africa, especially in the extractive sectors as demand for Africa's abundant resources like minerals, fossil fuels, sun, wind, wildlife, biodiversity, soil (amongst others) increase and industries like tourism and hospitality gain traction across the continent. At WhyAfrica we specialise in the conservation, sustainable use and responsible extraction of Africa’s natural resources. We focus on mining and mineral exploration, farming and agriculture, energy, infrastructure, critical minerals, biodiversity conservation, environmental management, natural resource management and the wildlife economy. We also look at the impact extreme weather events, climate change, technology, the African Continental Free Trade Area, African politics, geopolitics and ESG considerations have on your business and investments in Africa. These areas of study and research are becoming increasingly important and an understanding of how they are interlinked is critical for the future development of the continent. The annual WhyAfrica Road Trips through Africa presents us with the ideal opportunity not only to promote business in Africa, but to connect the dots. These are all areas of interest that should concern all industries, all suppliers and all service providers. Contact us for more information.
