We are excited to share that we have been awarded two #catalytic investments from leaders in the #naturebasedsolutions space:   🌳🤝 A grant by the Good Energies Foundation to support our #conservation and #forest #restoration project development and #communityempowerment process in the #CongoBasin;   🌿 🤝 A conditionally repayable grant from the SDG Impact Finance Initiative to support the design (in partnership with EY-Parthenon) of #climatefinance innovations for the implementation of our portfolio of projects at #scale in #Africa.   These two catalytic investments provide essential support to our journey to develop and mobilize finance for our portfolio of Iarge-scale conservation and reforestation projects with the highest #community and #biodiversity #impact. They help us accelerate our work, focusing on the key value drivers for the long term, and #derisking further investment into our portfolio:   ✅ The community empowerment approach we are developing with the support of the Good Energies Foundation, including direct carbon revenue participation of the communities, is essential to address the underlying dynamics of #multidimensionalpoverty that drive deforestation, ensuring the conservation and protection of forest #landscapes for the #long term.   ✅ The green bond and debt solutions that we are developing with the support of the SDG Impact Finance Initiative help us maximize the share of #carbon assets that stay in country, freeing up resources for government and communities, and becoming catalysers of #sustainabledevelopment.   We are very #grateful for the support of these leading organizations and we look forward to working together to continue #unlocking further #investment into our portfolio. I had the incredible opportunity to attend ACS@ONE, an event hosted by Jacobs Ladder Africa, where we delved into the groundbreaking outcomes of the ACS 2023 Nairobi Declaration. The focus was clear: How can we build on the momentum of ACS 2023 to accelerate progress toward a sustainable and resilient Kenya—and by extension, Africa? On Day 2, the discussions turned to youth and children inclusion in climate change conversations. 🌱 As the custodians of the future, it’s crucial that we, the younger generation, take an active role in shaping the policies and actions that will define our world. We explored how advocacy and strategic policy engagement can keep governments and stakeholders aligned with climate goals. Since when did Ugandans become an indigenous community in Kenya? How can we expect sustainable development to flourish on the wrong sociopolitical foundations of constitutions? 💡 It's time to scrutinize the programs you support. Are they built on: - False pretenses? - Misguided assumptions? - Ignorance of local contexts? - Disregard for community voices? 💡 True sustainable development demands: - Authentic engagement with local communities - Inclusive decision-making processes - Respect for indigenous knowledge and practices in their true sense - Recognition of indigenous peoples' rights to their lands, territories, and resources - Constitutional frameworks that uphold justice and equity 💡 Let us not be accomplices to fake sustainability. 🌍 At a high-level forum in New York, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the African Development Bank (AfDB) unveiled the Africa Sustainable Development Report (ASDR) 2024. The report, titled “Strengthening Agenda 2030 and Agenda 2063 and Eradicating Poverty in Times of Multiple Crises: Effective Implementation of Sustainable, Resilient and Innovative Solutions,” highlights Africa’s significant challenges and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 🔍 Key findings: - Africa still lags in achieving the SDGs, with 54.8% of the world's poor living on the continent. - Food insecurity affects at least 281.6 million people, an increase of 11 million since 2021. - Progress on combating climate change, promoting peace, and international partnerships remains slow. - The financing gap is substantial, with a shortfall of $118.2 to $145.5 billion annually for climate financing. - Access to drinking water has improved, reaching 72.9% on average, with notable success in Ivory Coast. 🚀 The report calls for enhanced multilateral cooperation and increased support from development partners to bolster public development banking, infrastructure, and human capital development. Achieving the 2030 Agenda requires collective effort and strengthened partnerships. Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) are collaborative agreements between government entities and private sector companies designed to develop public infrastructure and deliver public services efficiently. The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) plays a significant role in raising awareness about the potential of PPPs as a strategic tool for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. UN ESCAP promotes PPPs to enhance infrastructure development, improve service delivery, and foster economic growth while encouraging innovation and investment. By emphasizing the importance of effective PPP frameworks, UN ESCAP seeks to ensure that such partnerships are designed to be equitable, transparent, and accountable, thus building trust between public institutions and private partners. The organization also provides technical assistance, capacity building, and policy guidance to member countries, facilitating the sharing of best practices and success stories from across the region. Through workshops, seminars, and publications, UN ESCAP raises awareness about the benefits of PPPs in addressing critical issues such as poverty alleviation, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience. By fostering dialogue among stakeholders—including governments, private sector representatives, and civil society—UN ESCAP aims to create an enabling environment where PPPs can thrive, ultimately contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Asia-Pacific region. Bigger, bolder, better, together - these words summed up yesterday’s “Energizing Africa” event at the World Bank. This vision for collaborative action was a common thread across multiple online events I attended in the past two weeks, which included the presentation of the new ODA figures for 2023 from OECD; Evaluation of Contribution to the Implementation of the SDG by EU External Action in the Period 2016-2021 from DG INTPA and DG NEAR and the World Bank’s event Energizing Africa: What Will It Take to Achieve Universal Energy Access? All these events consistently highlighted the importance of coordination for achieving greater success in sustainable development. It was particularly gratifying to see that Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and its programs at the forefront of working across almost all areas globally that were mentioned as in need of further collective work. Having focused my master's thesis on development aid allocation by DG INTPA, I was especially interested in the results of their external evaluation of SDG contributions (2016-2021) presented alongside DG NEAR. One recommendation resonated strongly with a point raised later at the World Bank event: the European Commission should reinforce its influence on SDGs by working with development partners in recipient countries. This includes fostering a shared, cross-cutting SDG vision, providing additional support to the UN, and pursuing more strategic collaboration with donors, OECD, and national governments. This emphasis on collaboration aligns perfectly with my personal belief that only a united effort from donors, private sector partners, governments, initiative groups, advocates, and NGOs can bring about lasting change. Knowing that SEforALL shares this vision fills me with cautious optimism about the potential for increased collaboration, even amidst global challenges. Let’s think and act bigger, bolder, better and together!

Governments can explore innovative financing mechanisms, leverage public-private partnerships, and prioritize investment in sustainable development projects to mobilize resources effectively. 3️⃣Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, academia, and local communities, is crucial for fostering ownership, accountability, and inclusivity in SDG implementation. Governments should create platforms for collaboration and dialogue to harness the collective expertise and resources of all stakeholders. By adopting these strategies and embracing a spirit of collaboration and innovation, governments can accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs and create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
