The commitment of RDM Group to a responsible management of #resources is crucial throughout the entire value chain, both upstream and downstream. 🔻 This company calls it trash. We call it feedstock! 🔺 This impressive heap is made up of production scraps from a client in Austria. For this client, there's bad news, and good news. First, the bad news. If you're a manufacturer in Austria, as of 31 Dec 2023, you can no longer 🚫 landfill, incinerate or export 🚫 composite waste. This is due to the implementation of the EU Waste Directive at a national level. And that is why this company has been stuck stockpiling such waste, while they searched 🔎🔎 for a viable solution. The good news is that fibreglass waste like in this pile can be ♻ recycled ♻ into new high-value composites. Even better news, production waste is actually EASIER to recycle than end-of-life waste like boat hulls, due to its consistent composition and lack of contamination. Regulation is evolving and compelling industry to find sustainable solutions. 🌎 Austria was the first country to implement the EU Waste Directive at the national level, and more are planning to follow suit. Like many other companies, Chilanga Cement Plc shows commitment to sustainability and responsible environmental stewardship through its co processing operations. Co processing is the use of waste as an alternative fuel for energy recovery in a thermal process without altering the quality of the final product ( coal and petroleum fuels which are non renewable sources are mostly used in kiln operations in cement production). Amongst the many advantages , not only does use of waste as alternative fuels present a cost saving solution but it serves as a better waste management alternative as compared to incineration or landfilling. Waste is completely destroyed due to high temperatures in the kiln leaving no residues. Today each of us is challenged to be a #RecyclingHero. You don’t need to make grand gestures in order to contribute towards this great initiative. Sugarcrete Scientists have developed “sugarcrete,” an innovative material made from sugarcane waste, which could potentially serve as a sustainable alternative to concrete. By using bagasse, the fibrous residue left after extracting juice from sugarcane, they have created a lightweight and eco-friendly building material. Sugarcrete not only repurposes agricultural waste but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with traditional concrete production. The development of sugarcrete focuses on making it a viable option for construction by optimizing its structural integrity and thermal properties. If further refined, this material could help address environmental concerns related to conventional construction practices and promote a circular economy by utilizing renewable resources.
