🚆 Rail revolution at InnoTrans 2024: EXOES on Track 🚆 For our very first time at InnoTrans, Julien Baron, our Key Account Manager, was truly impressed by the full-scale exhibition of electrified trains on display. InnoTrans, Europe’s leading railway exhibition, attracted 170,000 visitors and 3,000 exhibitors. As EXOES expands further into the rail sector, with initial projects underway, this was a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the advancements driving the industry. 🚉 Julien explored the 133 vehicles on display and immersed himself in the growing trend of battery-powered trains, which have made significant strides in the past two years. 🔋🚄   The rail industry is seeing increasing demand from rail OEMs and battery manufacturers for specialized testing services. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a really interesting technology. Back when I were working in Banedanmark, we made an interesting study into useability and precision of GPR and ballast drillings. Drillings are naturally very accurate, but only in the specific spot where they have been made. GPR is relative to drilling inaccurate, at about 10% of the depth (10 cm at 1 m). However, it is also important to consider that GPR is a continuous signal, where drillings are discrete. So, how accurate are drillings mid-way between them? Our studies indicated that it were up to +/- 19 cm - double that of GPR and the double the formation layer's thickness. Furthermore, GPR (with some calibration drillings) are significantly cheaper than frequent drillings - in our experience up to 80% cheaper in total and also requiring less time and hence less capacity and track possession time. GPR fits well into linear asset management, where it can be combined with all other data to make complex decision support possible. I am a fan, and really curious to know why it is not used more. It would be great if anybody in my network has any thoughts on it.

At Innotrans this year this technology shall count amongst a major find as on NF Railway where already a no of rail tunnels are constructed or being constructed in hostile terrains and many of these were constructed prior to the policy modification to build BLT in longer tunnels after I took over as GM there and emphasised for the same with railway board. But what to do in the tunnels (with ballasted track and water deposit they’re affecting safety) which were already built and already had train operations plus need for other strategic requirement which may need fixture less track structure. And here it was this technology from Edilon)(Sedra a world leader in building ERS/ EBS in such circumstances without the need to block rail traffic for months together. A must adopt technology on Indian Railways #indianrailways #nfr

I just arrived in Berlin for InnoTrans 2024, where you will get a glimpse into our world.
