Summary: Despite a 50% decline in VC investment into Quantum computing last year, government spending in the field is predicted to reach $40 billion over the next decade. This has led to the creation of QDNL Participations, a European VC fund focusing on early-stage quantum startups. Key takeaways: 1. Government spending on quantum computing is expected to continue increasing, with over $42 billion already invested in the last two or three years. 2. QDNL Participations is expanding globally and sees potential for growth in the quantum startup ecosystem. 3. The Netherlands is positioning itself as a key player in the quantum computing field, with initiatives like Quantum Delta NL and a team of advisors including quantum computing experts. Counter arguments: 1. Some key figures in the tech industry, like Mark Zuckerberg and Jensen Huang, have expressed doubts about the timeline for quantum computing development. 2. Despite potential growth in the field, quantum computing is still in its early stages, with challenges and uncertainty surrounding its progress. #venturecapital #quantumcomputing #vc #startups #emergingtech

What does it take to scale a company from the university lab to IPO & beyond? Dave Grimm, Partner AlbionVC and UCL Technology Fund discusses all things university spinouts, from what it takes to work at the earlier stages of venture, to our special partnership with UCL and why now is a very exciting time for the UK #deeptech ecosystem. Having backed over 30 university spinouts (4 went on to IPO on NASDAQ and 2 exited to big tech), David shares that deeptech founders need to love the problem they are solving more than the technology.
