ALPLA’s recyclable wine bottle made from PET claims to weigh approximately an eighth of a glass bottle, halve its carbon footprint by 50%, and achieve price savings of up to 30%. Available in 0.75L and 1L sizes, the bottle can be produced entirely from rPET. It is thought to save both energy and materials during production, thus reducing carbon consumption. What a fascinating day - talking with packaging people and understanding the huge opportunities for reusable and refillable systems at the Reuse and Refill Fair (Salon du Vrac, dahling) in Paris. Many viable alternatives to single-use packaging are itching to get on the market. To be a success, it will need all of us everywhere to take part - from shoppers and eaters to retailers, food manufacturers, distributors, packaging producers, used packaging collectors, cleaners, digital technology providers, local authorities, governments and more. 🍊 Celebrating the partnership between Zumex Group and PeelPioneers - a #FoodTech500 company this week for #WorldEnvironmentDay sheds light on a crucial aspect of sustainability in the food industry. By upcycling Zumex Group’s orange peels into valuable ingredients, PeelPioneers - a #FoodTech500 company is not only diverting waste from landfills, but integrating this practice into their existing business model.   According to the Food & Agriculture Organisation, approximately 50% of fruits and vegetables produced are wasted. On Monday evening our Product manager Caitlyn Smith and Sales Manager Lewis Maslen were thrilled to represent the packaging industry at Sussex Six’s Food & Drink Networking Workshop this week. They joined fellow foodies and local business owners to not only present our packaging offering but also discuss solutions to their local products face to face, all with one goal in mind; sustainability. Here’s what they learnt: People want sustainability - Sustainability is definitely the forefront of business owners' minds in the food and wine industry. We discussed everything from compostable plant based plastic alternatives (coming soon in our product range!) to the humble honeycomb sleeve as a recyclable solution to a number of packaging conundrums. Checking in with the industry is key - Events like these are fundamental for us to ensure we are providing the most value to our customers, understanding their challenges and meeting their needs as they evolve and grow. We’re on the right track! - We left with a smile on our face knowing that the products we are delivering and developing align beautifully with what our customers want right now. Momentum continues to build for our disruptive ReZorce® mono-material barrier packaging range, with the news that it is a winner of the prestigious 2024 German Packaging Prize. The expert judging panel noted that ReZorce “… is made of mono-material HDPE. A patented technology enables a layer to be created during extrusion, which provides barrier properties that can even allow the use of 30-70% mechanically recycled HDPE. ReZorce has been proven to reduce environmental impacts such as water and energy consumption by around 50% compared to conventional composite beverage cartons.
