🌍 Europe can't afford to backtrack on the green transition. Not now. Scientists urge political leaders to heed the planet's urgent call—denial won't alter the laws of physics. With temperature records breaking monthly and ecological tipping points looming, science is clear: we are not doing enough. EU politicians cannot just sweep the triple climate-biodiversity-pollution crisis under the carpet when setting their priorities for the next legislature. The Green Deal must keep leading the EU way; all other priorities depend on its success. ✍️ By Patrick ten Brink

Yesterday PredictBy hosted an important webinar on how to engage citizens in climate action through the use of behavioural insights. Frans Folkvord presented the key behavioural frameworks that help to better understand human behaviour and decision-making, and Merel Griepink provided a comprehensive explanation of cognitive biases that may prevent climate action and provided examples of tools that can help to overcome these biases. 💡 Thank you very much to all ~400 participants attending the session, coming from almost all #EUMemberStates. A big thank you to the inspirational guest speakers Vihren Mitev, Ph.D. Mitev (Ecological Manifesto - ManEco), Jeroen Janss (Inner Green Deal) and Hendrik Bruns (European Commission, Joint Research Centre) for bringing new perspectives and sharing their valuable insights on how to promote sustainable behaviours. 👏 For those who were unable to attend the live session yesterday, the slides and the recording will shortly be available on the #EUAcademy. An interesting insight from the webinar is that the audience considered the pseudo-inefficacy bias as the most useful for fostering behavioural change. You can find the explanation of this bias below, including ways that help to overcome it. This webinar was part of the EU Action Climate Academy facilitated by the #EuropeanClimatePact. The European Climate Pact is a movement of people united by a shared mission to build a more sustainable Europe and help the EU to become climate-neutral by 2050, contributing to a successful implementation of the #GreenDeal. 🌍 We are very happy to contribute to this initiative, collaborating with Ecorys and Ricardo plc. Please stay informed for exciting future sessions to come, each covering a different topic! 🚀 For more information on the Climate Pact or for insights on how to use behavioural science to foster sustainable behavioural change, feel free to reach out to Frans Folkvord.

Excited to share a fantastic article by our Senior Research Assistant, Yingzhi Sarah Tang, on the intricacies and controversies of Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCMs). Yingzhi's research has played a key role in shedding light on this complex and critical area of sustainable finance. In her article, Yingzhi addresses several pressing issues, including: - The integrity and transparency concerns in VCMs - The role of VCMs in mobilizing private capital towards climate and biodiversity initiatives - The key challenges such as leakage, and permanence risks - The potential benefits of VCMs for developing countries and hard-to-abate sectors Her analysis provides a greater understanding of how VCMs function, their challenges, and their future potential if effective risk mitigation and regulatory oversight are ensured. Dive into her article for an in-depth look at the state of VCMs and their impact on climate action. 🔗 Find it here: https://lnkd.in/gi_aUxNp
