The guest, gamer and entrepreneur Thug, shared some valuable insights. He emphasized the importance of having a backup plan if you're pursuing gaming as a career. Thug advised that gaming should be continued as a passion until you find yourself in the right place at the right time and in front of the right person. He pointed out that there are many talented professional gamers and content creators who are still waiting for their big break from the comfort of their homes. Thug's key takeaway: "Luck and timing matter too, not just talent." I love that accessible gaming is getting more and more awareness. The Last of Us 2 was a milesteone and things are getting better and better! If you're interested in professional wargaming, as a customer or practitioner, then do check out this podcast episode. The whole thing is worth listening to, but for me the main points are: - The language of professional wargaming, what should you call it, and how do you avoid all the connotations around existing terms. I like "immersive exercises" that was used in the conversion. - The importance of using the format to explore the consequences of decisions, rather than assuming that the parts of a system are fungible and that the outcome will remain the same. - An absolutely excellent point by Amal Ali on emphasising "Strategic Empathy", on understanding what you opponent might do. Such a glaring omission in strategic planning on some many contexts. And there's some great war stories too 🙂
