Is education today a service or a sale? I recently had a privilege to meet the hon’ble education minister of Haryana seema trikha. And what she said to me, has literally made me see the world of education in a different light. She said, “Education is a sector, not an industry. We’ve made it a multi-million dollar industry, when it should be Vidyadaan.” In the olden days, it used to be a priceless gift, a service. From being a sacred service, a VidyaDaan, education today has taken a commercial turn. Don't get me wrong, monetization isn't evil, but it is essential to keep the essence of education intact. Plus it’s not just a minimal price even in pre-school or primary education. There are lakhs of Rupees being spent by parents when they want to send their kids to good private schools. But what about the ones who can’t afford it? And here I’m just talking about primary education, there’s high school, there’s tuition, there’s vocational, then college education. Everything has a price. A hefty price! Today knowledge is like a commodity traded on the market, with its value determined by supply and demand. This shift is so profound and far-reaching that one cannot help but wonder: Have we lost sight of what education truly means? Education, in its purest form, should be an experience that broadens horizons, opens minds, and empowers individuals to be the best they can be. It should be about exploration and discovery, about asking questions and seeking answers. It should not be confined to a price tag or limited by financial constraints. Yet we find ourselves in the midst of an education system increasingly driven by profit motives. This rising trend demands scrutiny and debate. We, as a collective society, must question the direction we're heading in and ask ourselves: Is the monetization of education serving our kids, or is it failing them? #Education #Monetization #Learning #Debate

I still believe there should be a vidyadaan. Those people who can afford should consider sponsoring young kids in various NGOs/orphanages.

Education has undoubtedly seen a shift from being a sacred service to a commercial industry.
