Today, at our 68th Air Safety Forum, we honored the crews of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 and FedEx Express Flight 1432 and recognized their heroic actions that saved the lives of hundreds of passengers. When faced major in-flight challenges, these crews led by example and exemplified determination and courage. The crew of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 is being awarded the ALPA’s Superior Airmanship Award in recognition of the skill and professionalism demonstrated when their aircraft experienced rapid depressurization caused by the left mid exit door plug blowing out. The captain and First Officer Emily Wiprud relied on their extensive training and experience, responded promptly to the in-flight emergency, and safely returned the damaged aircraft with all passengers and crews alive. Captain Hugo Carvajal and First Officer Robert Bradeen Jr. were awarded the Superior Airmanship Award for their extraordinary execution of a go-around that avoided a collision with another aircraft taking off on the same runway. The crew of FedEx Express Flight 1432 maintained vigilance and responded immediately to an extremely dangerous startle event, relying on their extensive training and experience to avert disaster. “These events make crystal clear how critically important is that we maintain the two-pilot standard that we currently have here in the United States. It’s helped lead to the safest skies in the world,” said Capt. Jason Ambrosi, our president. “Remarkably, some corporate special interests are pushing to change that standard and lower the safety bar by allowing commercial flights to operate with only one pilot. This is a dangerous idea, and ALPA is committed to fighting it at every step of the way. Delta Air Lines why are there always more agents in the normal check in lanes than the sky priority lanes? Most of the time it is three to one ratio. If we are truly a priority, shouldn’t one of the benefits be getting through bag drop and to security faster? Because that is not happening at the multiple airports that I frequent..

I wish we didn't live in such a capitalistic society most times. I wish that airlines could facilitate evacuations.... for example: if you're under an evac order, your flight out of the area is a nominal fee, and your return flight, to the same airport, is $100 (or less?) within, say, a 21 day window. I hear and see so many people say that they can't evacuate because they have no where to go, or that family is too far. imagine the literal life saving measure this could be. Work on it, airlines. 🚨 More Trouble for Southwest Airlines ✈️ 🆘 Southwest Flight 1248 narrowly avoided disaster off Florida's coast. 🔺 The Boeing 737-800, en route from Orlando to Miami with 143 passengers and crew, experienced sudden engine failure at 10,000 feet and severe turbulence. 🔺 Captain Emma Thompson's quick thinking and emergency procedures diverted the plane to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, where it landed safely. 🔺 Emergency responders were on high alert, but all passengers and crew emerged unscathed, though some reported minor injuries and shock. 🛬🌊 🆘 Southwest Flight 2786 came within 400 feet of crashing into the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii. 🔺 En route to Kauai, the Boeing 737 Max 8 dropped from 16,000 feet due to severe weather. 🔺 The plane briefly descended at an "abnormally high rate" of over 4,000 feet per minute. 🔺 The flight crew performed a "roller coaster maneuver" to avoid disaster. 🌧️🌊 📛 Both incidents, which occurred on April 11th and June 15th, have sparked investigations. ❗The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is assessing the aircraft and flight data for Flight 1248, while the FAA is investigating the plunge of Flight 2786. #AviationSafety #TravelAlert #SouthwestAirlines #travelnews #TripMe

Every person can learn life lessons from the 1972 crash of Eastern Air Lines Flight 401, that will help you in a personal or business crisis.   1. Create time (yes - they used surplus fuel, to track clear of the airport and enter a holding pattern) 2. Prioritise (yes - they used the autopilot to unburden the pilot, but ...) 3. Never trust a single indication (no - they never tested the light globe (that had blown)) 4. Safety/business continuity (no - with everyone focussing on the problem, no one was tasked to fly the aeroplane.) The pilot's mantra "Aviate, Navigate, Communicate" prioritises actions to maximise safety. During a crisis at home, work or even in your car, always ensure someone is aviating - "Flying the aeroplane".
