Fascinating Drone Application and projects being discussed at the Amsterdam Drone week. The use of a specially adapted Drone (flying while inside a protective 'shield') to determine safety of burned buildings, called 'Flyability Elios 3' is the first indoor mapping and inspection drone. Allowing a drone to fly while inside a protective 'cage' could lead to a number of other rescue/life saving devices. Thoughts?
Global drone experts are currently gathering at Amsterdam Drone Week, and yet the Netherlands itself also has some very interesting drone projects going on. Here is a case study by Flyability near the port of Rotterdam. #firefighting #dronesolutions #rotterdam #droneapplication #casestudy

Lots of stuff happening before EOY within the drone industry behind the scenes: - #SRR gets awarded - I hope it goes to *both* Skydio AND Teal Drones, for both companies make good products for the warfighter and a ‘diversity of systems’ helps support the development of an industrial base. 🚁 - #blueUAS will expand in #platforms and #component offerings. Really awesome to see the stuff folks are submitting. 🇺🇸 - #consolidation: more companies have been acquiring. Announcements are coming… 🗃️🗂️📂 - #collaboration: more firms working together horizontally on shared product offerings via UAS Nexus. 🤗 - #competition: Allied nations with increasingly competitive offerings will beat out domestic ones - that goes for both the vehicles and the components that make them. 🇱🇻🇩🇪🇭🇷🇻🇳🇰🇷🇯🇵

The DGCA's drone size classification system is like a meticulously organized library, with each drone neatly categorized on its own shelf. From the tiny nano drones, barely bigger than a hummingbird 🐦, to the hefty heavy-lift beasts, capable of carrying substantial payloads 🏋️♂️, every size class has its own set of rules and regulations. This structured approach ensures that airspace remains safe and orderly, allowing both manned and unmanned vehicles to coexist harmoniously ✈️🚁. So whether you're flying a micro marvel or an imposing giant, you can do so responsibly, knowing that the skies are carefully managed 🌌.

It looks like a good story, seems like a lot of money, but is it? I’m not so sure. That’s $2.2m per company. If you want the best engineers, the best researchers doing leading edge work you’re competing in a limited pool. Salaries are $200kplus, a slice of the business (albeit small), or some other incentive. You need facilities, the costs of employment (add workers comp, payroll tax liabilities) plus some money to keep the owners going. Still haven’t included tooling and consumables. So, $2.2m might get you 3-4 people plus the ones you’ve got for a year. There won’t be “accelerated” outcomes if we don’t give innovators the freedom and resources to innovate. The money looks too small for “accelerated”. It’s a penny pinching, salami slicing, choke on what could be “rapid development”. It looks like “innovation” the same way we’ve always done it through government. We can’t afford to do it all, nor can we afford to to treat innovation as a slow drip feed. Resource starved, pedestrian, without pressure. Next Friday can’t look like last Friday. This looks a lot like government procurement, and why wouldn’t it? Capability quickly, refreshed, is better than something sometime. This isn’t going to get us inside the speed of development of a potential adversary. We need to start doing this very differently, if we do want a different outcome. We need to challenge the traditional. What would it really take to accelerate some of these into fielded capabilities, where it will make a difference? @kiah

Night Drone Flights: Challenges and Government Control of Airspace Recently, drones have been spotted in night skies across various states. Operating drones at night requires a clear target for data collection and specialized equipment like thermal imaging cameras to overcome visibility limitations. However, these flights face strict regulations. The FAA and other government agencies monitoring airspace can track drones in real-time. Without proper authorization, they can identify the drone owner and even disable the device remotely for up to 24 hours. This strict oversight ensures airspace safety and compliance. During the filming of the History Channel’s Swamp People episode “Everglades Triangle,” we encountered this firsthand. The original location at a closed abandoned and claimed to be haunted airport deep in the Everglades was scrapped due to FAA rules, instructing us to secure an alternative site. This experience highlights how effectively our government controls U.S. airspace. So, while night drone flights are fascinating and useful, they require careful planning and adherence to regulations. Therefore, unidentified drones fly at night some as big as a car and nobody knows who is flying them or why is doubtful. #bruniinfrared #FAA #droneregulations, #historychannel #SwampPeople #Everglades
