A huge infrastructure project that is the largest in Denmark’s history. The energy islands will soon be built in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. They are key to Denmark’s ambition of reaching the national climate targets, and the plan is that the energy islands will contribute to supplying Europe with renewable energy. In order to get there, the innovation project ‘Offshore Energy Hubs’ focuses on new solutions and strategies to ensure stable and cost-effective operations of the energy islands. Offshore Energy Hubs – Researching the Future of Energy Islands 🌱   The Offshore Energy Hubs project is focused on developing the knowledge, methods, and solutions needed to design and operate energy islands #efficiently and #reliably.   The project aims to, among other things: 🔹Develop an advanced analysis toolbox to design and secure the complex electrical infrastructure of energy islands. 🔹Make wind farms more cost-effective. 🔹Develop offshore electrolysis technologies that can be integrated into the operation of energy islands.   💡 Insights will be shared regularly The project will invite to knowledge-sharing sessions like tech talks. The journey towards establishing #energy #islands (personally prefer the term #offshore #hubs) has not been without turns and twists. While indispensable for reaching the massive ambitions towards offshore wind, our ability of building them at scale and pace needs further development. This is why I think that projects like the EUDP - Det Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram funded Offshore Energy Hubs are so important! Our ambition is to develop the knowledge, methods, and solutions needed to design and operate energy islands hashtag #efficiently and hashtag #reliably. ...and I think we will be able to do so because we have a dream team of partners: Ørsted, Siemens Gamesa, Green Hydrogen Systems, Aalborg University, Hellenic Cables, SuperGrid Institute and Energy Cluster Denmark! 🔋MIT's Renewable Energy Clinic Tackles Offshore Wind Challenges 💨 The MIT Science Impact Collaborative (SIC) recognizes that achieving renewable energy targets involves more than just building new facilities; it requires engaging communities and stakeholders right from the start. That’s why we’re turning our focus to offshore wind, a key component of America’s energy strategy but also one with distinct challenges, including environmental, social, and regulatory hurdles. As the U.S. moves towards meeting its climate goals, expanding our renewable energy capacity is essential. We need to add 38-67 GW of renewable power annually by 2030 to meet U.S. decarbonization goals, mainly through large-scale wind and solar projects. Despite significant support from legislation such as the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, challenges persist, particularly from understanding public sentiment and opposition and navigating complex permitting processes. Our new project at the SIC seeks to overhaul how regulatory and stakeholder consultations are conducted for offshore wind projects. We’re striving for a balanced, non-partisan approach that accommodates the interests of all parties—local communities, Tribal nations, maritime industries, and governments. Through dialogue and stakeholder assessment, we're committed to understanding how to make offshore wind work for all stakeholders. Can innovations like this gather the increasing energy in our weather, capture it as useful energy, protect our coastlines and perhaps even be deployed in ways to create beneficial habitats? Could we do the same, with different designs for fires? For floods? For heat waves??? The energy is there … for the taking. We know what shapes it will take. Can we adapt, benefit, and protect all at once?

We were honoured to participate in the in-depth conversation for the 2nd #REPowerEU anniversary! 🎊   🏆 This ambitious initiative successfully boosted #EU #renewables deployment, saving over 25bcm of gas demand in 2 years! These guidelines on permitting and tendering are closing out this cycle, but what comes next?    🎤 To continue addressing the #EU's structural dependence on natural gas use, we have one important message for the European Commission: we need to break free of the technology-specific strategies approach and instead prioritise transversal initiatives with the highest potential of clean energy uptake & #energysecurity.   As Europe's largest energy consumer, with over 40% of supply still coming from natural gas🤯, 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 #𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 #𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 #𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗴𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆!    What would that look like? 👀   ♻ Diversification: we must encourage the uptake of 𝗮𝗹𝗹 #cleanheat sources! 👷♀️Planification: we must give a new dimension to "urban energy planning"! Europe can become the first climate-neutral continent –according to a study led by the PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. The study shows that Europe already has all the necessary technologies to achieve power sovereignty and electricity generation free of fossil fuel resources by 2030. Therefore, Europe needs an enabling legislative framework as the growth of renewable energy has been too low to meet targets, the study states.
