Thrilled to announce my latest publication with my colleague Yamini Chandra Ph.D. (Psychology and Entrepreneurship)! Our paper, titled "Simulation Exercise: Learning Entrepreneurship Through Local Market Business Opportunity Identification," has been published in the IMIB Journal of Innovation and Management. Designed for students across various programs, this simulation exercise enables learners to explore the entrepreneurial landscape of local, livelihood-based businesses—essential, day-to-day businesses that sustain communities, especially in India. As an entrepreneurship educator, I emphasize that innovation extends beyond startups; it’s embedded in grassroots businesses, where resilience, empathy, and resourcefulness are key. Our simulation introduces students to "bottom of the pyramid" entrepreneurship and empowers them to apply critical Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSAs) using a hands-on approach based on Bloom’s Taxonomy. Spanning cities like Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Nagpur, our students uncovered universal vendor challenges, documented their findings, and crafted solutions presented through business model canvases. These insights were then shared back with vendors, some of whom are now implementing them! This journey in experiential learning offers valuable resources for instructors, with teaching notes included for classroom discussion. Access the full case study here: https://lnkd.in/dBg4d6ZX

I am delighted to be part of the panel discussion at Thrivenation, Madras Management Association (MMA) Chennai, in association with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, about the need and importance of 'Entrepreneurship Education.' The need for entrepreneurship education combined with 'learning by doing' is essential, especially for those who wish to accelerate start-up growth to navigate the rough terrain of entrepreneurship. I insisted on the formal entrepreneurship education requirement, especially for those navigating with ideas and looking for a direction setting. If I plot the aspiring students in a standard normal curve, less than the 20th percentile may not be interested in entrepreneurship, and the above 90th percentile is in an auto-mode that they will sail through what may happen. Entrepreneurship education will facilitate students from the 20th percentile to the 90th percentile who are in dilemma of contributing towards the entrepreneurship ecosystem either as entrepreneurs, investors, co-founders, or a start-up employee. Formal education will help them understand what to expect, prepare their minds, set ambitious goals, and provide the necessary tools to overcome obstacles. It's like knowing about the sea before swimming. Experience is unique, but the prior learning will support smooth sailing. #Entrepreneurship #EDII #Education #MMA #Chennai Read the full article https://lnkd.in/ehzpra4h

Educational Pedigree vs. Entrepreneurial Spirit 60% of Indian Soonicorn founders do not hail from IIT's. 77% have a non-IIM Background! A recent Inc42 Media analysis of 213 soonicorn founders reveals a surprising twist in the tale of India’s entrepreneurial journey. 80% got engineering degrees, 3% pursued a degree each in commerce and economics, more than 5% opted for a degree in science. Less than 2% opted for BBA. While one aspect is understanding that 60% of soonicorn founders have a non-IIT background, another aspect is stating that background has not been a deciding factor for investors anymore. I’ve been at helm of on-ground value creation through social entrepreneurial lens now for the last 5 years, firstly transforming my academic understanding from the Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, TISS Mumbai into full-time social enterprise KumaonKhand and hence when I met Pooja Madaan, a research scholar from joint PhD program at The University of Queensland and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, and she shared her wish to write in-depth paper on KumaonKhand, I was excited about it. Infact, more excited at the opportunity to co-create the paper. The research really intrigued me, “Study on the adoption of digital technologies for dual value creation and sustenance of digital social enterprises in India” While now for 2+ decades, the research has been on-going on social entrepreneurship, the one aspect which has stood out in every research is the tension that arises due to mission and finance tango - mission drift due to inaccess to funds, and more. The one paper that I studied which helped me align my business model earlier in my journey was by Prof. Jay Weerawardena titled Business Model Innovation in Social Purpose Organisations. This opportunity to work along with Pooja, guided by Prof. Jay, UQ Business School and Prof. P. Vigneswara, IIT-D was an opportunity to understand my daily aspects from entrepreneurship, from researcher lens. I was completely overwhelmed - and understood the sync in practice and research is essential to completely grasp the design of development. Still from Pooja’s visit to our place, Kasar Devi, Almora, September ‘24 #SocialEntrepreneurship #BuildingforHimalayas #Research #SocialEntrepreneurshipResearch

9.4 CGPA in IIT. A dream for many. A turning point for me. At IIT Indore, I achieved a milestone—a 9.4 CGPA, ranking at the top of my class. But here’s the twist: I walked away from academics soon after. Why? Because I had a decision to make: 1️⃣ Stay on the traditional path of top-notch academics, guaranteed job security, and prestige. 2️⃣ Dive into the uncertainty of starting up—a path that thrilled me but also terrified me. Let me paint the picture: I was the branch topper. My future was set. But I wasn't satisfied and hence I dived into marketing and entrepreneurship. 👉 Soon I found myself staring blankly at exam papers, not because I didn’t know the answers, but because my energy was consumed building startups late into the night. It wasn’t easy. I doubted myself. A lot. But I knew this: “Ek saath do naav mein savari karne waala aksar doobta hai.” (You can’t sail two boats at once.) So, in my second year, I made the leap. 📌 I chose a single focus—entrepreneurship—and gave it everything I had. Fast forward 5 years: That decision shaped the entrepreneur I am today. If I hadn’t taken the risk, I’d never have built a company helping creators scale their YouTube growth. So here’s my advice to you: 👉 Focus on ONE thing. Go all in. Trust the process. It’s scary, but it’s worth it. Do you agree that single-minded focus is key to success? Comment below 👇 #grades #startup #entrepreneurship #iit #money
