Our Green Communities Leadership Institute (GCLI) team recently caught-up with GCLI co-founder Dana Karcher to learn more about her work at The Davey Tree Expert Company and why they're invested in growing the GCLI community. GCLI: Can you tell us a little about The Davey Tree Expert Company (Davey)? DANA: Davey was started in 1880 by John Davey in Kent, OH. We are the 9th largest employee owned company in the country. Our work is based in science and innovation. Whether our employees climb and prune trees or work in urban forestry with cities and towns, we look to the latest in science and innovation to meet our client’s needs. GCLI: What does “next-level leadership” mean to you, and what kinds of leaders do you think the green industry will need in the future? DANA: Next level leadership has always meant not doing the things the way we have done them before. We're constantly looking at different ways to solve problems, bring synergy, and how to lead. Leadership is a process, it is not a stagnant thing. One of the things that I love at Davey is that we encourage leadership at all levels. This includes in our working environment, or in the communities in which we live or serve. That is shown by our commitment to supporting our company leaders whether they are teaching 4th graders about the environment, planting trees with citizens for Arbor Day, or even leading at the international level through groups like the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). For the future, we need to grow leaders that are willing to try new innovations, new solutions, and be flexible in their approach to challenges and opportunities.

"Reimagining leadership also requires (re)conceiving and expanding our understanding of the qualities that make a leader. It calls for a model rooted in love, care, and justice—where leadership means nurturing both people and the planet, and where power is shared, not hoarded." I’m happy to share the latest edition of the Reimagining newsletter, which I curated with Melanie Zurba, for the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy #CEESP. Let’s inspire a new era of leadership that champions a world where equity, compassion, and sustainability lead the way. #Leadership #Sustainability #SharedPower #IUCN #CEESP #ReimaginingLeadership

Whenever I read or hear stories like this, I can't stop but wonder: where was the sensing? Why did nobody stop and say: "This does not feel right"? Why is it so hard to be simply morally creative when trying to impact the planet positively? It should be pretty clear by now, that we should look at solutions for the emerging future from four lenses: spirit, planet, people, and profit. Only when the value of the solution is in balance with these pillars, which it always can and should be, we are looking at a solution that might potentially create exponential benefits. 🌳 Wondering how you can systemically uncover the true potential of your initiative to create exponential systemic value? Send me a message. We've created something pretty unique to get you, your team, and your initiative right where you belong for now and the next 7 generations to come. #regenerativeleadership #consciousleadership #potentialexponential Diederik Wokke Monique Wisse https://lnkd.in/efz3gvU6
