🌱 Unlocking sustainable finance to achieve Europe’s Digital Decade targets Connect Europe, ecta (european competitive telecommunications association), Ericsson, GSMA and Nokia have joined efforts to develop a unified position on the EU Taxonomy. Telecommunication networks form the backbone of Europe’s economy, playing a crucial role in connecting people and businesses while supporting the EU’s ambitions for climate neutrality and digital leadership. However, networks are not considered to be a Taxonomy elegible activity yet. The telecom sector call for the inclusion of electronic communication networks in the EU Taxonomy framework to unlock sustainable financing, guide investment, and ensure that the infrastructure continues to underpin the decarbonisation of Europe’s economy. 👉 Click here if you want to know more: https://lnkd.in/dT9MDXAR

#G20 starts today in Rio. A key priority is transparent, rights-based Digital Public Infrastructure (#DPI) that are "secure and interoperable, built on open technologies, to deliver equitable access to public and/or private services at a societal scale". A great paper here from Open Knowledge Foundation & others; proposing a commons-based approach.

As Börje Ekholm says, action is needed to strengthen European digital infrastructure, enable telecom industry growth, and increase the region’s competitiveness. Our next-generation smart factory in Tallinn, spanning 50,000-square meters and expected to be operational in early 2026, is a fantastic example of how Ericsson invests in a sustainable, high-tech future for Europe. It will serve a collaborative space for pioneering development and techniques that support Ericsson’s and our customer's Net Zero journey, and it shows how critical digitalization is to our future. https://lnkd.in/dtrFhpFm
As digitalization continues to grow, it's vital for Europe to prioritize investment in high-performance digital infrastructure to ensure future competitiveness, technology leadership, and decarbonization goals. Currently, Europe lags behind the USA in digital infrastructure investment. It is crucial for Europe to lead on innovation, not regulation, and for European policymakers to drive change. The collaboration between Ericsson and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) is pivotal for our ability to make these necessary investments towards the next step in digitalization and the green transition. I had the honor of discussing the importance of digital infrastructure investments and Europe’s role in the world at the NIB seminar on the new geopolitical reality and its impact on the Nordic-Baltic region.
