New research by the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) reveals that fewer than a third of foundations fund nonprofit endowments, and for those that do, these grants represent a small fraction of their giving. While in recent years endowment giving has been championed as a way to advance equity, CEP’s new research finds that for those foundations that do fund endowments, advancing equity is not their primary consideration. Are you advising clients with significant RMDs this year? 🏦 If your clients are facing Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from their retirement accounts, they may wish to consider using a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to create a designated fund at the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation. 🫶 While QCDs cannot go into DAFs, they CAN go into designated funds - funds designed to permanently support one or more of a clients' favorite organizations in perpetuity. ✅ Encouraging your clients to direct their QCDs into designated funds can help them achieve their philanthropic goals and plan for their legacy, all while being tax efficient. If you're curious to learn more about how designated funds could meet your clients' needs, please reach out or visit our Funds and Fees page below. https://lnkd.in/gXqnvSFs

Earlier this month, Benefactor Group's founder and principal, Laura MacDonald, and I discussed the Key Steps to Building an Endowment. Based, in part, on Laura's recent publication, The Endowment Handbook (https://lnkd.in/eW_ajBhr), we explored the different types of endowment, how to identify and engage potential endowment donors, and answered many questions from the webinar participants. Here is a replay of the webinar and several resources that can help your nonprofit organization build a resilient future. #Endowment #PlannedGiving #DeferredAndEstateGiving #GiftInWill #Philanthropy #CharitableGiving #Nonprofits #Donors

Illuminating report from the Center for Effective Philanthropy on the strategies and challenges behind foundation funding of nonprofit Endowments and the latent opportunities for greater sustainability in equity efforts... “We can keep funding nonprofit organizations year by year, but if you really also believe and want to set up an institution for the long term such that no matter who comes next, they are just anchors in the community, for us there’s no other way than the endowment,” - foundation leader #foundations #philanthropy #nonprofits #equity #sustainability

One might own the world but what you do with it, makes all the difference. As a medical student, it is not just about course completion and finances but the debt that might occur to achieve the dream that bothers many. The students of Albert Einstein College of Medicine are fortunate to be blessed with the generosity of Dr. Ruth Gottesman. The former professor of the college has donated $1 Billion which is to be used to cover tuition fees of all the students going forward. Her generosity brought tears of joy to the students and parents. And it has touched so many more lives. 1. This donation would attract a diverse and talented pool of students who might not otherwise have the financial means to pursue a medical degree. 2. The Bronx, where the college is located, needs more compassionate and knowledgeable healthcare professionals as it is one of the poorest towns. It has a high rate of premature deaths and illnesses. Hence, this act will make a significant difference in uplifting not just Bronx but its future children. 3. This act will have a long-term impact on the students and the generosity would be passed around in unseen ways. I believe, Dr. Ruth Gottesman has demonstrated what exactly charity is and how it can have a phenomenal impact. #csr #socialresponsibility #charity #donations #goodwill #community #communitydevelopment #drruth #ruthgottesman #csrinitiatives #development #upliftment
