How do we work with local communities and stakeholders to promote #sustainable practices? 🤔 🤝 Community Mapping: Since 2015, we have collaborated with local communities in nearly 200 villages through Participatory Mapping (PM) to delineate critical areas of their lands and resources, setting aside areas necessary for food security and conservation. 🌳 Conservation Dialogues: We continue engaging these #communities through active consultations and discussions with relevant stakeholders and experts to create conservations plan through Participatory Conservation Planning (PCP), which has led to the preservation of 43,000 hectares of forests to date. 🌱 Sustainable Development: Through our #BrightFutureInitiative, we work closely with local communities, equipping them with knowledge about sustainable agricultural practices and growing their businesses. This empowers communities to improve their resilience and achieve long-lasting economic growth without compromising forest conservation. Learn more about our efforts at https://bit.ly/3Wa3oKD.

What Can England Learn from Scotland’s Community Land Buyouts? Scotland's pioneering community land buyouts are empowering local residents to reclaim, restore, and protect vital natural landscapes. Featured in the FT, Langholm’s transformation into the Tarras Valley Nature Reserve, led by the town’s own community, shows how local people can actively participate in conservation, replacing harmful land practices with ecological stewardship. With 700 community-owned assets covering over half a million acres in Scotland, these initiatives reflect a significant shift toward sustainability and biodiversity. In England, private landownership remains concentrated among a small elite, often posing challenges to the country's ecological health. Scotland’s approach demonstrates that community-led ownership, which involves collaborative decision-making and sustainable practices, can effectively restore and preserve land. As England looks to address its own land and nature crises, a community-centered model like Scotland's could lead to more resilient, biodiverse ecosystems. What can the England learn from this? Embracing community land buyouts in England could shift the landscape toward a more inclusive, sustainable future. It's time to give local communities a say in stewarding the land we all depend on. Earth Day 2024 🌍 🌳 As we celebrate #EarthDay2024 and the powerful theme PLANET VS PLASTICS we reflect on the crucial role that grassroots organizations play in conservation. A related concept is Community-based conservation (CBC) promotes the idea that long-term conservation success requires engaging with, and providing benefits for local communities. So, what important role can your community organization play toward conservation: 1. Supporting community natural resource management. Like the the work, RegisTree does with the Mida Creek community. 2. Facilitating local governance processes like Enkusero Sampu Conservancy, which balances human-wildlife conflict & water needs in Kajiado. View their profile here https://bit.ly/4aIalJe 3. Influencing national policy changes Tag and recognize more Kenyan CBOs and NGOs with conservation projects in the comments! 😊 #earthday #earthday2024 #conservation #communitybasedconservation

The Essex Local Nature Recovery Strategy public consultation closes in less than 1 week! Please make sure to get your responses in by Friday 25 October. More than ever, wildlife and their habitats are under threat for survival. It’s time for us to all play our part in assisting nature recovery in our county. The Essex Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) provides a new vision for our natural spaces, and the draft strategy is open for public consultation for your input and feedback. Introduced by the Environment Act in 2021, the strategy identifies opportunities for the creation of new habitats, which are most likely to provide the greatest benefit for nature and the wider environment. It has been created with input from landowners, farmers, environmental NGOs, charities, local authorities and members of the public. The draft LNRS outlines biodiversity priorities for nature recovery in the county as well as a series of proposed actions, known as potential measures, to achieve these. Your participation is crucial for delivering a robust strategy which collectively we can use to work towards nature recovery, shaping a thriving natural environment for Essex. To take part in the public consultation, please visit https://lnkd.in/eYYqNitb

We have ambitious goals to improve economic and environmental performance for those living in and farming in the Rangitīkei district. There are approximately 2,800 farms in the catchment area, which covers approximately 700,000 hectares. We’d love to help as many landowners as possible; however, funding is our biggest obstacle in scaling our efforts. We’re incredibly grateful to our valued partners, past and present, who have helped us get to where we are today. As any farmer can tell you, there’s always more work to be done. We’re keen to work with others who can enable us to expand our efforts and ensure our sub-catchment groups have the support and resources to achieve their long-term goals. Current environmental restoration projects we're seeking support for include; protecting and restoring habitats for native Whio (blue duck) and Dwarf Galaxiid fish populations, protecting native bush remnants, continuing to monitor water quality with macroinvertebrate and eDNA water sampling and analysis and establishing a community nursery to grow natives or poplar poles.
