🌞🍃 Ample land for sustainable renewable expansion in Europe! New study by European Environmental Bureau reveals that Europe has sufficient land to expand solar and wind energy without compromising food production or nature. The study shows that only half of the land deemed suitable for renewable energy—excluding natural reserves and high-value agricultural areas—is needed to decarbonise the EU by 2040. 👉 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dYvtmTh8

Check out this great recap by Ingunn Gunnarsdottir, of Landsvirkjun and RECS Energy Certificate Association GO conference held in Iceland last week!
Last week, Landsvirkjun and RECS Energy Certificate Association hosted the GO Conference in Reykjavík, and I had the pleasure of moderating the event. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with experts and catch up on the latest developments! Here’s a glimpse of what we covered: ✅ In the opening session, Tinna Traustadottir shared Landsvirkjun’s GO journey, noting we are entering one of the largest construction phases in the company’s history. Adam White from RECS emphasized the need for harmonized regulations in the GO market, while Jóhanna Hlín Auðunsdóttir highlighted how sustainability is at the heart of Landsvirkjun’s operations. 📈 The Market Session, expertly moderated by Lawrence Templeton of Argus Media, featured insights from Mathijs Huls (STX Group), Aksel V. (ICAP), and Nima Faroghi (ACT Group) on the latest developments of the GO market and how legislative actions are driving increased demand for GOs. 🔮 In the Future Analysis Session, Mary Polovtseva (Veyt) stressed the growing role of legislative drivers in shaping the GO market. Lars Ragnar Solberg (AFRY Management Consulting) told us the Norwegian GO saga, most notably, the Norwegian government‘s decision to remain in the GO system. Justin Colley (Argus Media) discussed the changing dynamics of the GO market. Roxana Lund, CFA (Rio Tinto) told us about the company‘s sustainability journey and and how Rio Tinto is now using the market-based method for Scope 2 emissions. 🗣 The event wrapped up with a panel moderated by Enza Tedesco from Montel, featuring industry leaders discussing their reasons for purchasing GOs, market outlooks, and the evolving regulatory landscape. ⚡ If you are interested to learn more about the event, please take a look at a blog post I wrote with some of my main takeaways from the day.
