Lab Crigen, one of ENGIE's Research Centers, is a partner of Svanehøj, a provider of safety solutions for the storage of liquified gas. They have just published a White Paper on the need to regulate the safety at offshore #LNG storage facilities. Audrey Hubert is Deputy Director of Crigen's Liquefaction Lab, and as such has a thorough knowledge of the risks in this sector. We asked her a few questions. 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗰. | 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗮 An oil well is a hole dug into the Earth that serves the purpose of bringing oil or other hydrocarbons - such as natural gas - to the surface. Oil wells almost always produce some natural gas and frequently bring water up with the other petroleum products. Do you know where the first commercial oil well in the world is located? #Trion #ElectronicEnergyMeters #TrionTradeInc #ThursdayTrivia #Trivia

It’s Wednesday again, which can mean only one thing: it’s time for LNG Industry’s #WednesdayWisdom. Today’s piece of wisdom comes from Ralph Weiland of Optimized Gas Treating, Inc., whose article discusses the use of piperazine as a reaction promoter in combination with N-methyldiethanolamine for enhancing carbon dioxide removal rates, “Simulation is the most obviously effective way fundamental data can be used in design and operations, and ProTreat is presently being used as the benchmark CO2-capture simulator in the multinational SCOPE project to commercialise the piperazine-AMP solvent process (called CESAR1).” Stay up-to-date with the latest LNG news by registering for a free trial of LNG industry here: https://bit.ly/3p3QotC #wednesdaywisdom #LNG #simulation #LNGIndustry #naturalgas

Gas/Hydrogen to Liquids 30 years ago I joined a team to develop bp’s oil and gas assets West of Shetland. At the time there was no infrastructure in the area and, whilst oil could be tankered out, the associated gas had no home to go to – stranded gas. To prevent continuous gas flaring the front running option was gas reinjection into a separate geological trap. I suggested gas to liquids as a possible option and obtained a budget to look at gas to synthetic crude. The synthetic crude would be blended and exported with the reservoir oil. It was a really interesting project looking at marinising an onshore syncrude plant - produce synthesis gas offshore and Fischer-Tropsch it to syncrude. The economics were marginal and it was shelved. In time bp installed a gas export line and the problem of associated gas was solved. Prior to the syncrude route other options for gas to liquids were screened. It was a good reminder of how useful hydrogen is as a chemical building block.

The latest article by Jaxon Caines in E&P highlights a significant trend: the surge in longer lateral drilling. This innovative approach is transforming the industry by enhancing reservoir recovery and boosting efficiency. Leading the way are high profile companies like ExxonMobil, Pioneer Natural Resources Company, SM Energy Company, GBK Corp, Permian Resources, and Franklin Mountain Energy, LLC. 🔹 Maximized Recovery: By extending the horizontal reach of wells, operators can access more of the reservoir, leading to higher hydrocarbon extraction. 🔹 Increased Efficiency: Longer laterals mean fewer wells are needed to cover the same area, reducing costs and environmental impact. 🔹 Technological Advancements: Specialized equipment (like the high torque PTECH+ connection) and improved techniques are making it possible to drill and complete these extended wells successfully. This trend is a game-changer for the energy sector.
