💡 Young people building for young people: AB Stångåstaden has launched a project to help local young people gain professional skills and create more housing for young residents. 🛠️ Local construction students are renovating a former preschool into five apartments designed specifically for people aged 18-24. The high school students work on-site three days a week under the supervision of construction professionals. Working in teams, they take responsibility for various aspects of the renovation, from design to construction. So far, the students are half-way through the renovation. Once completed, the homes will be offered to young people waiting in the housing queue. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e7dXaMqD Fredrik Törnqvist Malin Wettre

Good to see that this scheme has now secured planning permission. Anderson Acoustics were commissioned by Oundle School in 2022 to undertake an environmental noise survey and then in 2024 a noise impact assessment including advice on noise mitigation measures required to comply with the local planning requirements. We assessed the impact from existing environmental noise levels on the building itself, and set out recommended limits to externally mounted plant items so that a detailed noise assessment of external plant can be undertaken once the selections are made. The results of the noise levels measured on site, were used to calibrate an environmental 3D model of the site to predict façade noise levels at the proposed building elevations. Looking forward to seeing the scheme take shape. #planningapplication #planningapproval #educationestates #schools #noiseimpactassessment #acousticconsultancy

Pittsburgh: The City of Bridges Affectionately known as the “City of Bridges,” Pittsburgh boasts 446 bridges. Long before the majestic bridges soared above the Three Rivers, Pittsburgh was a rugged terrain of deep valleys, creeks, and rivers, isolating many of the city’s residents. When the first European settlers arrived in the 1700s, they had to cross streams and climb steep hillsides just to travel around the region. To overcome these challenges, the settlers built wooden bridges to connect newly constructed roadways and span the rivers and valleys. Next, City staff will work with a consultant to finalize design and construction drawings. Construction of the Phase 1 improvements is expected to begin in mid-2025 and be completed by early 2026. The timing of future phased improvements to Coyote Ridge Park will be determined by recommendations from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and approval by City Council. 🏫🌳 Exciting progress at Thoresby Vale, Edwinstowe! In September, Harworth began construction of a new Primary School at our Thoresby Vale development in Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, where 800 new homes are being delivered in addition to community amenities and a 350-acre country park, which was opened to the public in the Spring. Over the last 15 weeks, fantastic progress has been made on site despite the recent weather conditions: ✅Timber structures for the Juniors and Early Years pavilions now complete. ✅Low-level masonry well-progressed on the Juniors & Early Years pavilions. ✅Slab and upstand on the admin building complete. ✅Foundations for the hall due to commence shortly following installation and sealing of attenuation tank. In partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council and the Local Education Authority, the new style ‘forest school’, operated by Diverse Academies Trust, will offer a unique educational environment where students can learn and thrive in close connection with nature. The forest school is designed by Lungfish Architects and constructed by principal contractor Stepnell. Opening in September 2025, the school will immerse students in the beauty of the neighbouring Sherwood Forest, providing a nature-filled environment that encourages creativity, mental well-being, and a deep connection to the environment. ⬇️ Watch the timelapse video below for progress to date: #ForestSchool #Education #Wellbeing #Communities #Regeneration

Next week is our CAN-opener where we will kick-off CANstruction 2024 and this a reminder to RSVP for the event. This is an opportunity to meet potential teams, sponsors, and volunteers. This year will be our 28th Canstruction Portland event which will be at Pioneer Place in mid-September. Our goal is to raise enough food and funding to provide over 60,000 meals to those who are food insecure in Oregon and SW Washington during our in-person event and ultimately, help make an impact on the issues that perpetuate hunger in our community. This year’s CAN-opener is on Wednesday, April 24th at 5:30pm at Mahlum Architects, Inc. We will have an online option for those who cannot attend in-person. We are trying something a little different this year by sending out the presentation out late next week to use the CAN-opener as a questions and answers forum. So come ready with questions and conversation! Last year, Oregon Food Bank saw a 14% increase in visits to meal assistance sites- and they are on track to see another 1.2 million this year alone. It is estimated that 1 in 10 Oregonians are facing hunger. Despite the climb out of the pandemic, rising costs of goods, housing, healthcare, and inflation generally has meant that we aren’t seeing a decrease in hunger. Your participation in and support of Canstruction is a vital way we can bridge the hunger gap for our community. Together, we can help create a resilient community with every can and dollar we raise at this event. And we need you to make the difference. We are asking for your continued support to help us grow Canstruction Portland and make a positive impact in our community as we return to an in-person event. We would love for you to spread the word about the event to your clients, coworkers, and friends. Please email us at info@canstructionpdx.org if you are interested in joining us. #Portland #Canstruction #canstructionpdx #oregonfoodbank #OneCanMakeaDifference #CanstructaWorldWithoutHunger #endhunger #nawicpdx #aiaoregon #aiaportland #ASCEOregonSection #agcoregoncolumbiachapter #OBOA #design #architecture #engineering #construction #art #designbuildfeed
