To close the week, a case study from our Building Acoustics team. This one was led by Eduardo Manzano Fontecha. We have demonstrable experience in the acoustic design of gymnasiums. We cover the complete range of acoustic and nosie requirements from baseline noise and sound insulation surveys, detailed acoustic advice for the control break-out and vibration transfer to spaces internally and externally, and plant noise assessment and mitigation. 105 WIGMORE STREET UNTIL commissioned us to provide acoustic advice for their new gymnasium located at 105 Wigmore Street, London. The gym, situated in the basement of the building, required careful acoustic planning to ensure minimal noise disturbance to adjacent spaces, including offices and reception areas. The acoustic design recommendations we provided ensured that the gym could operate without causing significant noise disturbance to adjacent spaces. The proposed solutions effectively controlled both airborne and vibration-induced noise, creating a comfortable environment for both gym users and other building occupants. Great to see planning approval now secured for this major mixed-use development in Greenwich. Our Air Quality and Building Acoustics teams have been 'on board' Boord Street for the past 10 months commissioned by Fairview New Homes. We undertook planning stage air quality and dust risk assessments. We will also be conducting a programme of sound insulation testing to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of Approved Document E 2003 (ADE) of the Building Regulations 2010. Really looking forward to see the complete build. #MixedDevelopment #NewBuild #PropertyDeveloper #AirQualityAssessment #DustRiskAssessment #PlanningApplication #PlanningApproval #SoundInsulationTesting #BuildingRegulations #Compliance
Delighted to share that our Boord Street project has recently received planning approval. This community of sustainable new homes at the heart of Greenwich Peninsula marks a point of transition between our masterplan to the east where an emerging piece of city is taking shape, and to the western edge of the peninsula with its active wharf. The trio of residential buildings with interlocking forms step down from 26 storeys along Millenium Way, to 21 and 9 storeys towards the wharf; each step representing an increasing informality. March Square, a new south-facing public space at the corner of Marsh Walk and Boord Street, provides an entrance court for a nursery and leads to a light-filled residents garden at the centre of this family of buildings. New and repaired streets will knit the site into the wider fabric of the peninsula, with key routes along the future Millenium Way, a lively, tree-lined boulevard and River Way, an important east-west route. The wider project features student housing and self-storage and was a collaboration with aca studios and Threesixty Architecture Ltd.

We have been involved with this scheme commissioned by Fed3 Projects Limited to provide room acoustic design advice to ensure optimal sound insulation and speech privacy while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the spaces. #CommunityCentre #NewBuild #AcousticDesign #SpeechPrivacy #SoundInsulation #ReverberationTime
A terrific snap of progress at Jewish Care's new campus in Redbridge. We've designed the scheme to meet current and future demand for all Jewish Care services for the local community in #Essex and East #London, which incorporates a 66-bed #care home, community centre and #dementia day centre. Nice work so far Lawrence Baker Ltd, and ahead of programme too 👏

Callum Brewer travelled to the medieval town of Fordingbridge today at the invitation of Corstorphine & Wright. He delivered his Noise and Planning CPD to the team covering the complex landscape of noise related legislation, policies and planning guidance (national, regional and local) and our 8-step approach to noise assessments. Providing examples of how to adopt good acoustic design on new noise-sensitive and noise-generating developments, the team discussed the impact of acoustic screens and treatments to balconies. We hope you found it useful and thank you for hosting us! #CPD #Noise #NoiseAssessments #NoiseMitigation #PlanningApplication #PlanningPermission #AcousticDesign #AcousticTreatments

The government has announced £740m of funding to increase the number of places for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in mainstream schools in England. The Department for Education says the money will be used to adapt classrooms and create SEN units that delivered more intensive specialist support.(https://lnkd.in/dv9fkhbV) Pupils with SEND include those with special health care needs (SHCN) which go beyond hearing loss such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and acoustic conditions are crucial to support these needs, including creating a nurturing, calming space for psychological safety. We have worked with the Department for Education to develop suitable acoustic standards for children with SHCN in mainstream settings, and those standards are being incorporated into new builds, but the 10 year old building bulletin covering acoustic guidance for refurbished spaces has not caught up. It’s not ok to expect children accessing transition spaces and noisy social spaces to have to cope armed with a pair of ear defenders, when good acoustic design can mitigate the disadvantages faced by children with SEND accessing in these environments. Whether you are a school, architect or contractor we can help guide the acoustic design of your project and ensure an inclusive environment that addresses the varying needs of the children. Head over to our Education Sector pages and read our case studies https://lnkd.in/e6MiQequ #EducationEstates #SEND #MainstreamSchools #BuildingBulletin #AcousticGuidance #NewBuild #Refurbishment #AcousticDesign #InclusiveListening

A fantastic case study from our Education Sector Team looking at the acoustic design of a special educational needs school build in Hounslow, London. We were commissioned by the London Borough of Hounslow in 2021 to provide acoustic design advice for the new Welfare Building at The Heathland School - two classrooms plus support accommodation for children with cognition and learning difficulties (Moderate Learning Difficulties, Specific Learning Difficulties including Dyslexia), and Social Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH). WELFARE BUILDING, THE HEATHLAND SCHOOL The classrooms, assessment rooms and learning mentor rooms were designed for the following special needs which fall under the BB93 definition of special hearing and communication needs: › Autistic Spectrum Disorder › AD/HD › Speech Language and Communication Needs Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, although not specifically mentioned in BB93, can be supported by providing a calming acoustic environment characterised by low ambient noise levels and shorter reverberation times. Our latest research on reasonably adjusted acoustic criteria to provide good acoustic conditions for these specific needs was followed to arrive at suitable acoustic performance standards in the two larger classrooms, based on the primary listening needs of the students. A great testimonial from Aun Qurashi of LB Hounslow: 'The Welfare Building project at The Heathland School is set in an acoustically challenging environment (being close to Heathrow flightpaths), has acoustically demanding requirements (being for children with special educational needs), and requires integration of acoustic solutions into an innovative design & construction ethos (the building is designed with natural and recycled materials including strawbale walls). Anderson Acoustics was appointed following a competitive process between experienced acoustic consultants to ensure best value for the London Borough. Led by Principal Consultant Emma Greenland, Anderson Acoustics’ contribution to the Welfare Building project has been professional, thorough, with attention to detail, and with efficient collaboration with other project consultants.' Last night, Ben Lindsay and Elliott Bains were honoured to attend this year's Auditory Verbal UK Claire Campbell Outstanding Achievement Awards in London. Auditory Verbal UK is one of the many charities we have sponsored in the past. We fully support their vision for all deaf children to have the same opportunities in life as their hearing peers. The event was a great opportunity to understand how the charity provides auditory verbal therapy services directly to families and how they work with the children. It was inspiring to hear from some of those families on their experiences, from diagnosis at birth, through treatment and therapy and then seeing the progression of the children to today, where through a combination of cochlar implants and therapy they are now able to hear and communicate verbally. It was insightful to see the tangible difference to the trajectory of childrens lives that the charity can make.
