Great to be at the fab Eden building in Salford for today’s @WalkRideGM event. Including gorgeous blue skies in Salford for mini walking and cycling safaris. Really interesting discussions around effective campaigning, framing, community engagement, uniting the movement and growing positive energy to create the conditions for change. 🌱 I joined a panel to share tips on engaging with Councillors and other politicians. Top tips were basically remember politicans are also human beings, ask what matters most to them, be curious, ask what gets in the way of progress and how to help. Shout about the good stuff as well as the bad. Persist.

Active Thames held an event (10 December) to bring partners together to discuss social value and the impact it has in the sports sector. To date, #ActiveThames, the partnership programme led by the PLA that promotes the development of watersports on the tidal Thames and inland waterways in London, Kent and Essex, has supported 56 community and sports groups with £430,000 of funding. It is focused on improving access, diversity, and inclusion, while raising awareness of the benefits of physical activity in blue spaces. Speakers included Will Watt, Founder/Director of State of Life, a social enterprise that helps organisations measure and value their wellbeing impacts; Sian Palmer-Ferry, Community Development Manager at Canal and River Trust;, Jamie Langstone, Sector and Partnership Manager at Southend’s Council for Voluntary Services (SAVS); and Terri Calbraith, Strategic Partnerships Manager at Poplar HARCA, a resident-led organisation that invests in community projects. The Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (SAWMPO) has completed the first phase of public engagement for the 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), gathering valuable insights from residents about their vision for the region's transportation future. The SAWMPO, staffed by the CSPDC, collected feedback from 284 community members through an online survey, community consultation sessions, and pop-up events across the region. The survey revealed strong community interest in expanding the options for transportation in the SAW area, particularly for walking, biking, and public transit.
