Orthex is excited to be part of the Reusify research project, aiming to cut down on single-use packaging ♻️ In line with Orthex’s sustainability strategy, we are committed to investing in innovative research to increase the use of recycled and renewable plastics. The Reusify project is one of the latest projects we are involved in. It has started in 2024 and aims to reduce single-use packaging. The project includes several different stakeholders, as cooperation across the entire value chain is a prerequisite for a #circulareconomy. The goal of the project is to increase the reuse of packaging by generating new knowledge and expertise on how reuse could be implemented and what kind of system it would require. ✋ What is the challenge posed by #bioplastics to #recycling infrastructure? Bioplastics pose a unique challenge due to their complex composition and limited recycling infrastructure. Current recycling methods often fail to efficiently handle diverse bioplastic types like #PLA, #PHA, and #Composites, leading to environmental impact and economic loss. ♻ In response to this challenge, ReBioCycle aims to improve bioplastics' recycling through innovative technologies and partnerships. Great potential to extract plastics from mixed waste for recycling instead of incineration! This is shown by the fresh results of the MSWPlast project within SPIRIT programme based on the large-scale sorting trial conducted at Remeo’s industrial sorting plant recently. “The plastics separated from mixed municipal waste are rich in polyolefins (PE and PP), making this an attractive feedstock for recycling. The fact that these plastics seems to be somewhat dirtier than the plastics sorted from separately collected packaging waste supports chemical recycling. However, when adequately washed, they offer high potential also for mechanical recycling,” says Jaakko Tuomainen, SPIRIT Programme Manager of Borealis. #Circular_economy Circular economy technology company Circtec announced today that it has raised €150 million (USD$163 million), with proceeds to be used for the construction of Europe’s largest end-of-life tire pyrolysis recycling facility in the Netherlands. Founded in 2009, UK-based Circtec utilizes pyrolysis technology to recycle waste into renewable fuels and circular chemicals. The company’s solution decomposes old tires through pyrolysis, a process that transforms waste into circular materials through thermal decomposition in an oxygen-free environment, and upgrades the products into high-quality recycled chemicals and renewable fuels. From the recycled tires, Circtec produces a sustainable marine fuel, circular naptha for responsibly-sourced plastics, polymers and chemicals, and carbon black for use in new tires, rubber and plastics manufacturing. https://lnkd.in/g4-xvhUg
