As we stand on the brink of a new era in #rail operations, digitization promises to #reinvent the way we think about transportation infrastructure. During my keynote address at #InnoTrans 2024 and panel discussion with leading industry experts Devina Pasta, Antonio Brunacci Lara Esposito, Marcus Voelcker, we explored the key drivers behind this transformation of rail operations, highlighting how a smarter use of already existing rail technologies can help rail companies navigate current trends. Too often, digitization and automation projects miss the human factor with regards to new capabilities and impacts on the workforce. 📚 Webinar Recap: "𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀"   On 4 July 2024, ALICE, together with the SARIL Project and ReMuNet Project, hosted a webinar that focused on the strategies and tools that are essential to improve the sustainability and resilience of intermodal transport networks, a topic of increasing relevance in today's globalised and disruption-prone supply chains.   𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: 🔖 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: John von Stamm from FIR at RWTH Aachen University presented the first results and future steps of the ReMuNet project. This project aims to advance resilient multimodal freight transport network in Europe, focusing on understanding disruptive events and creating algorithms for crisis evasion and rapid response. 🔖 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: Florian Krietsch of the PTV Group discussed tools for routing and network optimisation. His presentation highlighted simulation, collaboration, and operational scenarios designed to enable modal shifts and improve the efficiency of intermodal transport services. 🔖 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Lars Deiterding of HACON illustrated how intermodal transport can achieve transparency and flexibility. The focus was on making it as user-friendly and adaptable as modern multimodal passenger transport, aiming to improve operational efficiency and user satisfaction. 🔖 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀: Victor Becerra of Dassault Systèmes shared lessons learned and strategies for optimising intermodal transport networks. He covered advanced planning and optimisation techniques, emphasising the importance of efficiency and resilience in managing complex transport systems. 🔖 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗞𝗼̈𝗽𝗸𝗲 from Fraunhofer EMI introduced the SARIL methodology, which focuses on developing sustainable and resilient infrastructure and logistics networks. Future-Proof Technologies Conference moderator and industry thought-leader Lars Jensen began Session 2 of the #conference by asking panellists how #technology could be used to #futureproof the #supplychain in terms of large-scale #disruptions, #sustainability and #fragmentation? In his opening comments #TLME Future-Proof Technologies Conference Moderator and industry thought-leader Lars Jensen, set the stage for the day's discussions by highlighting the conference's tagline: "Be Resilient. Be Smart. Be Ready." Referring to ongoing #RedSea #shipping disruptions Mr Jensen said that the industry "has indeed demonstrated resilience" and #cargo has continued to move via alternate routes and #worldtrade has largely not been affected. Being "smart", Mr Jensen added, did not just mean using #technology but also how technologies are implemented to realise gains in efficiency, safety and lowered costs. The other topic of the day's discussion Mr Jensen said was "being ready". It was not any more about the promise of new technologies but how ready are they to be gainfully adopted and used effectively well into the #future. That is what is critical today. Mr Jensen said the #MiddleEast is playing key role in testing and implementing cutting-edge technologies in transport and logistics operations. As with the prior TLME conferences, insights gained and recorded from the discussions at the #FutureProofTechnologies Conference, can be used to spread greater awareness and smart deployment of future-proof technologies across the #supplychain.
