The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) just released their latest report on fertility trends in the UK, we've combed through it for you and pulled out the highlights: ⏱ IVF patients are, on average, almost six years older than women having their first child naturally. In 2022, the average age for women having their first child was 29.2, while first-time IVF patients were 35.1 and those having IUI treatment were 33.6. 📉 The impact of age on treatment: As we get older, our fertility naturally declines. This means the older average age of IVF patients could impact the success rates of treatments. Financial challenges and the rising cost of living are also factors here. 💸 NHS-funded IVF cycles are dropping, from 40% in 2012 to 27% in 2022. 📈 IVF is on the rise: Despite these hurdles, the number of IVF cycles in the UK went up by 11%. ♊ Multiple births from IVF have hit a record low at 4%, down from 28% in the 1990s. This is great news for public health and has saved the NHS millions. 👶 The use of donor eggs, sperm, and embryos in IVF has grown over the past decade, making up about 1 in 200 of all babies born in the UK recently. 🇬🇧 New egg and sperm donors are up by 21% since 2019, but UK-based sperm donors have decreased by 11%. More than half of the donor sperm used in the UK now comes from abroad. ❄ Egg Freezing Boom: Egg freezing is the fastest-growing type of treatment, with an 81% increase from 2019 to 2022. Women are choosing to preserve their fertility for the future, thanks to better freezing techniques and survival rates. 🔬 Understanding Chromosomal Abnormalities in IVF: The Crucial Role of PGT-A 🌟 In the journey towards parenthood, many couples turn to In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with hopes and dreams of starting or expanding their families. However, one significant challenge in IVF is the presence of chromosomal abnormalities in embryos, which can lead to implantation failure, miscarriage, or genetic disorders in the newborn. What Are Chromosomal Abnormalities? Chromosomal abnormalities occur when there are missing, extra, or irregular portions of chromosomal DNA. In the context of IVF, these abnormalities can drastically affect the success rates of embryo implantation and the health of the resulting pregnancy. The Need for Pre-implantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A) PGT-A is a revolutionary genetic test that screens embryos for chromosomal abnormalities before they are implanted in the uterus. This advanced technique helps in selecting the healthiest embryos, thereby increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy and reducing the risk of genetic disorders. Benefits of PGT-A in IVF: Higher Success Rates: By identifying and selecting chromosomally normal embryos, PGT-A significantly improves implantation rates and reduces miscarriage rates. Healthy Pregnancies: Ensures that the transferred embryos are free from chromosomal abnormalities, leading to healthier pregnancy outcomes. Informed Decision-Making: Provides prospective parents with crucial genetic information, enabling them to make informed decisions about their reproductive choices. Our Commitment at Oncogenomics Lab At Oncogenomics Lab, we are dedicated to supporting families on their IVF journey with state-of-the-art genetic testing services, including PGT-A. ASTEC has acquired Life Whisperer's AI analysis technology in the field of IVF. With this acquisition, we believe that we can add significant value to the services derived from the existing and new time-lapse incubators that ASTEC will be launching in the near future. While image analysis of embryos using AI is an important element in embryo culture, it is not everything. The core of ASTEC's business is to offer better services to hospitals and patients. We will continue to collaborate with various companies to provide the highest quality incubators and the best services. Life Whisperer is one of the world leaders in AI analysis for IVF. It predicts the likelihood of pregnancy and euploidy from a single static image of a blastocyst. In very near future, it will also be able to analyze unfertilized eggs. Since the analysis can be performed with microscope images without relying on time-lapse incubators, we believe that this service can be offered as affordably as possible, allowing more laboratories to benefit from AI analysis. https://lnkd.in/gzTXh5k3

🤝 Women’s health biotech company, Gameto is entering into a partnership with Australian-based IVF clinic chain, IVF Australia (IVFA) to bring its Fertilo offering to select clinics. Fertilo is a solution derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and designed to mature eggs outside the body as part of minimal hormonal stimulation cycles for IVF and egg freezing. Unlike traditional methods, which rely on 10 to 14 days of hormonal stimulation to mature eggs, Fertilo recreates the natural egg maturation process in a laboratory setting. This process replaces 80% of hormone injections required with traditional IVF and reduces the cycle duration and the side effects associated with the patient journey in IVF and/or egg freezing. 💬 Dr Gavin Sacks, senior fertility specialist said: “Throughout my career as a fertility specialist, I have remained dedicated to developing and supporting innovative ways to improve IVF for patients. I am excited to be working with the Gameto team to be pioneering the use of iPSCs in IVF and egg freezing to make the process better for patients.” 💬 Dina Radenkovic Turner, Gameto’s CEO and co-founder, added: “Australia has long been at the forefront of IVF innovation, establishing itself as a global leader in reproductive medicine, as the country was among the first in the world to achieve successful IVF births and has a history of groundbreaking research and clinical advancements dating back to the 1980s. Our partnership with Virtus and IVFA broadens access to Fertilo for patients worldwide, beginning with one of Australia’s most respected fertility networks.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/dBtDH4Kd

IVF Lite, or Minimal Stimulation IVF, offers a safer, more affordable alternative to traditional IVF by using lower doses of fertility drugs, which minimizes side effects and the risk of Ovarian Hyper-stimulation Syndrome (OHSS). This approach involves shorter stimulation periods, reduced gonadotropin use, and yields fewer, yet higher quality eggs, resulting in better embryos with success rates comparable to conventional IVF. The protocol includes Clomiphene Citrate tablets, low-dose fertility injections (Gonadotropins), and GnRH Antagonist injections, with egg retrieval occurring 34-36 hours after the hCG trigger. All retrieved eggs are fertilized and the embryos are frozen on days 5/6 for future transfers. IVF Lite is particularly beneficial for patients with low AMH, poor responders, older individuals, those with multiple IVF failures, and hyper-responders like PCOS patients. When combined with Embryo Accumulation using Vitrification Technology (ACCU-VIT), IVF Lite becomes even more efficient and cost-effective, generating high-quality eggs and embryos with a simplified treatment plan and reduced costs. Additionally, the integration of Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidies (PGT-A) can elevate success rates to 70%, even for high-risk patients, by ensuring embryos have the correct chromosome count. This technology helps increase pregnancy rates, lowers miscarriage risks, and allows for the freezing of healthy embryos. Overall, IVF Lite offers a less invasive and more economical approach to IVF, enhanced by the latest advancements in fertility technology, making it an optimal choice for a wide range of IVF candidates. In the fascinating world of reproductive medicine, IVF is a cutting-edge technology that gives hope to countless couples facing fertility challenges.IVF conjures the miracle of conception outside the woman's body, in a lab, but sometimes, it brings a double surprise - twins! 🌟 Which factors increase the chances of twins? 🤔 🧬 Genetic inheritance, especially from the mother's side, can increase the likelihood of twins. 🕒 Women over 30 tend to release multiple eggs during ovulation, leading to fraternal twins. 🤰 Women with multiple previous pregnancies are more likely to conceive twins. 👨🔬 IVF and ovulation-stimulating medications raise the likelihood of twins, with IVF resulting in higher twin rates compared to natural conception. 👶👶 What Are The Chances Of Twins With IVF? IVF might not increase the likelihood of twins, but transferring multiple embryos can enhance the possibility. Additionally, each embryo has the potential to split. While not extremely common, the odds do increase with factors such as multiple embryo transfer. 👭🍎 Identical and Fraternal Twins Identical twins come from a single fertilized egg splitting into two embryos, sharing the same genetic material and always being the same sex. Fraternal twins arise from two eggs fertilized by different sperm, genetically distinct like regular siblings. Both types can occur naturally or through IVF, with varying circumstances and probabilities. The journey to parenthood through IVF is full of hope and surprises, sometimes in the form of twins. Whether you're hoping for one baby or two, IVF opens a world of possibilities for those dreaming of parenthood. 🌟💖 Check out blog for more info! 🔍
