Fairplace Councillor Workshop July 2024 New and ongoing elected members partake in a hands-on Co-Design activity, facilitating knowledge exchange with planning and built environment staff. This helps build understanding of the different roles and skills in local government as well as learning about key principles and concepts to create a more effective decision making environment. In this workshop the focus was on the growth of #towncentres which are a vital ingredient of Perth's future development. Our methodology helps identify significant aspects of place that should be nurtured. Groups then explored how infill dwelling targets translate to built form scenarios and the opportunities for community benefit that result from growth. Facilitated reflections on each groups experience consolidates learning and understanding. We also run medium density, main street and precinct versions depending on the specific learning needs of each local government. Thanks to Karsen Reynolds, Joslin Colli, Mitchell Hoad for inviting us back to help build the capacity of the team at the City of Vincent. #planning #localgovernment #education #seriousgames #urbandesign #communityengagement #responsiblefutures

What does 'the Trust' mean? The Trust is the umbrella term to describe everyone in the organisation: our children, teachers, support staff, governors, trustees and the central team. The schools and central services combined make Greensand Multi Academy Trust what it is. We value the differences between each of our schools and what they contribute to our Trust. Our commitment to collaboration, support and challenge was the foundation upon which we built our Trust and remains integral to the way in which we lead and structure our organisation. #SteppingIntoGreatness #MultiAcademyTrust #EducationalExcellence #QualityofEducation

As a #NYC + #downtown resident these days, I see the #Sept11anniversary as part of my city & community's incredibly sobering and poignant history and the critically essential #remembrancerituals that happen, as the picture I took yesterday of my local fire unit prep for a collective meal this morning shows. As a practitioner-scholar in the arts, design, and management, the anniversary brings front and center the work of Karl Weick and one of his classic papers from 2005 "Organizing and the Failures of Imagination." Weick cites the 9/11 report and a far-reaching conclusion it makes: "Imagination is not a gift usually associated with bureaucracies … It is therefore crucial to find a way of routinizing, even bureaucratizing the exercise of imagination." That report and Weick’s #sensemakingtheory provides a framework for understanding the challenges faced by the intelligence community before and after 9/11. In hindsight, we can recognize the role of #cognitivebiases and #organizationalculture in shaping how information is processed, we can point to #culturalnorms that may have led to a narrow focus on more traditional threats, thereby contributing to the #failureofimagination we saw. The piece is always a reminder for me of the power of our #creativefields and our ability to go to that #abductivereasoning that is so needed in times of complexity and uncertainty as the ones we live in now. Here's to #honoring the #memory of all of those who served #Sept11 and were touched by losses that terrible day in our beautiful city. 🏙️ #remembrance #imagination

Proud of Emily Koller, AICP and her planning team, City Council, P&Z, and committee members involved for achieving this award through TxAPA which highlights all the great work they are doing for the City of Amarillo citizens. Way to go! COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING AWARD City of Amarillo | Vision 2045 For a comprehensive or general plan that advances the science and art of planning. City Plan – Vision 2045 innovates comprehensive planning for more conservative communities, advancing meaningful planning work while acknowledging Amarillo's hesitancy for land use regulation. Experiencing typical suburban growth along affluent edges as the older core declined, planning has not been viewed as a solution to community challenges arising from these growth patterns. An inclusive process was required to recast planning as a roadmap for positive change and actively address concerns over the plan's potential impact on property owner rights. Ultimately, it evolved into a community-supported guide that strongly emphasizes a voluntary approach to improving Amarillo.

✅ Why Kingswood residentials are ESSENTIAL At Kingswood, we believe that school residentials provide more than just a break from the classroom. They offer invaluable experiences that foster personal growth, independence and lifelong skills. This is echoed by Ewa, a headteacher from Rochester, who shared, "students often push themselves out of their comfort zones, building confidence and a sense of accomplishment... These experiences are memorable and impactful, contributing to their growth in ways that benefit both their academic and personal lives." Through residentials students gain: ✨ Practical life skills ✨ Teamwork and bonding ✨ Self discovery Plus more! 🌍 #WRLDCTY | Session of the Day: Uncertainty is a Feature, Not a Bug | Daria (Dasha) Krivonos Check out the session for free until Oct. 31: https://lnkd.in/e-3YjGyd Dasha Krivonos’ keynote explored the critical role of uncertainty in urban planning. Rather than succumbing to inaction, she encouraged leaders to embrace uncertain times as moments ripe for transformative action. Krivonos urged the audience to challenge entrenched assumptions about the future and take calculated risks that could lead to groundbreaking urban solutions. “Failure of imagination is a crisis,” she warned, highlighting the importance of rethinking the future in a way that aligns with the dynamic, interconnected world of the 21st century. #urbanplanning #urbansolutions #futurethinking #futureplanning #economicdevelopment #sustainability #embraceuncertainty
