We are proud to highlight the remarkable strides made by Brazilian researchers in the field of agricultural technology. Through a sustained commitment to research and innovation (R&I), they have developed technology specifically adapted to the tropical climate of Brazil. This has resulted in an impressive 500% increase in output, while only doubling the land attributed to agriculture over the past 50 years.
Without this dedication to R&I, Brazil could still be a net importer of food as it was five decades ago. Instead, it stands today as a leading global agricultural producer and exporter.
The roots of Brazil's agricultural research stretch back nearly 150 years, with the first agronomy school established in 1877. Today, the country boasts more than 20 agricultural research institutes and universities, including three ranked in the QS World University Rankings top 100 universities for agriculture and forestry: USP - Universidade de São Paulo, Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), and Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV).
This journey underscores the transformative power of research and innovation. It serves as a testament to the fact that when we invest in science and technology, we can change the course of our future for the better.
