Sustainably driven construction is becoming more common, and it is warmly welcomed following the UK Green Building Council’s warning last December that the UK’s built environment was not on track to meet the 2050 net-zero emissions target. Is your business incorporating sustainability into its projects? With the need to reduce environmental impact, now is the time to act. https://bit.ly/4hhGVFc #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #NetZero #ConstructionInnovation #UKGBC #SustainableConstruction #GHGEmissions #BuiltEnvironment #EcoFriendly #SustainableProjects

As buildings consume more than 15% of global fresh water each year, it is incumbent on the industry to ensure water efficiency is a key feature of our assets. Most green building ratings systems and frameworks look to tackle water consumption, efficiency and innovation as a key performance metric, leaving substantial opportunity for good water practices to improve a building's green rating performance. In this article, our Director of ESG & Sustainability Rebecca Jinks and Program Manager Dwayne Kaan provide a green building rating and framework assessment, and consider how thoughtful water management, consumption and control can contribute to improving many global green building ratings. Whilst there has been an increased interest in addressing the climate crisis, with many people becoming more aware of what the issues are and why we need to act now, there are challenges that affect the construction industry, as well as the wider world. From governments failing to prioritise more energy efficient strategies through to the habit of demolishing and rebuilding rather than refurbishing buildings, there are many potential challenges. You can read more about these on our sustainability FAQs page: https://zurl.co/6NjK #Sustainability #FAQs #InsulatedPanels #SustainableConstruction #UKConstruction #BuiltEnvironment

The publication of the pilot version of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard last month emphasises the importance of sustainable urban planning. As the UK continues to work towards Net Zero, there is a clear approach to building low-carbon, energy-efficient buildings. As a developer, carbon reduction is already fundamental to our developments and we have already phased out traditional boilers in favour of air-source heat pumps in all of our newly built houses. During the life cycle of a building, its water consumption has a significant ecological impact💧 Since we are very much concerned about the environmental footprint of the building sector, we pay particular attention in each of our (re)development projects to incorporating: 🔹 rainwater recovery systems; 🔹 stormwater retention systems; 🔹 greywater recycling systems; 🔹 leak detection; 🔹 low-consumption appliances. We also follow guidelines provided by the BREEAM framework, EU Taxonomy requirements, and our in-house quality standards. In some projects, such as ZIN in BXNord, we will make the water from the groundwater drawdown available to public stakeholders. This permanently available water can be used for watering or cleaning public spaces. In this way, we intend to participate in the integration of our projects into the city and to reduce their impact on society 🏙️💧 👉 Find out more in our ESG report (page 52): https://lnkd.in/ewj5KJwe #buildinglifecycle #buildingsector #waterprotection #environmentalfootprint #BREEAM #ESG #sustainability #ZIN #realestatebelgium #Befimmo

It is reported that buildings generate 39 per cent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions – daily operations producing 28 per cent with the remaining 11% coming from building materials and construction processes.1 Incorporating sustainable practices into building design, construction, and maintenance can go a long way to reduce carbon emissions and the effects of climate change. How can you judge the level of sustainability of green buildings in order to compare them? Who benefits financially from green buildings? And is it possible to quantify the financial benefit of investing in green buildings?
