This past weekend I had the pleasure of being a part of Sport NL’s Summit panel discussion. Together, we discussed geographical challenges, coach development, athlete development and inclusivity in sport. All the things that really get me fired up 🔥 When I think about High Performance athlete development in our province there are a few things that come to mind - ☑️ Athletes need to focus on their development as a whole - mind, body, character. ☑️ We need to take a trans-disciplinary approach to helping athletes - strength and conditioning coaches, mental performance coaches, skills coaches, etc. need to work together - share data - realize that one is not more important than another, but that one may be prioritized for specific parts of athlete development. ☑️ We need to stop assuming that athletes are seeking their own development opportunities 🛑 And IF they are, are they engaging in development that is conducive to their growth? The online space - where athletes go to find their information - is saturated. Athletes need guidance on sport-specific training.
