📢 The first version of the competence profile of an adviser in the field of bio-entrepreneurship has been completed, together with the competence assessment methodology. The eRural resilience Competency Profile has been created to help describe competencies which define expectations for e-bio-business supporters. ✏ The eRural Resilience Competency Profile aims to capture and describe these e-bio-business supporters’ specific competencies by proposing 23 elementary competencies organised in 4 main fields: ✔ Business and Management is directed at the broader professional environment, implementing strategic plans for e-bio-business supporters, encompassing goal setting, market analysis, and formulation of strategies. ✔ Digital know-how looks at the competencies needed to be effectively updated on the latest digital technologies and elevate the digital proficiency of the workforce. ✔ Biological Production and Sustainability is dedicated to the integration of sustainability and biological principles into the e-bio-businesses’ operations, supply chains, and marketing strategies to enhance their environmental and social responsibility. ✔ Networking addresses the importance of networking competencies to effectively assist clients. 👉 The next step now in June-July is to share the Competence Profile and Assessment Methodology principles with our stakeholders to receive relevant feedback and suggestions for development and additions. #eruralresilience #MadeWithInterreg #InterregBSR #bioeconomy Association of Municipalities of Tartu County | Tønder Erhvervsråd | Tartu County Development Association | ProVarde Erhvervsudvikling | RegioVision GmbH Schwerin | Järvi-Pohjanmaan Yrityspalvelu Oy | Centria University of Applied Sciences | Digitaleus | Into Seinäjoki Oy | Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas | Creativity Works Europe | Stowarzyszenie na Rzecz Rozwoju i Promocji Podkarpacia "Pro Carpathia" | Gmina Bieliny

It’s National Science Week (10-18 August) 🎉 The Australian Government has released the National Science Statement and the National Science and Research Priorities today. The National Science Statement provides a framework to shape science policy and leadership across governments, in our labs, in research institutions and in boardrooms, to 2034. It is supported by a set of revitalised National Science and Research Priorities. 🔹As we saw at the recent #AIFST24 convention, new ways of working are emerging that embrace multi-disciplinary approaches, shared infrastructure, shared datasets, and developing digital capabilities. This shift is particularly important in the food science sector, where the integration of cutting-edge technology, sustainability practices, and consumer health insights are critical. 🔹 Food scientists are now at the forefront of these changes, playing a pivotal role in addressing global food security, developing alternative proteins, and creating healthier, more sustainable food systems. 🔹 In particular, the world is shifting to new models for conducting science – moving away from siloed science funding, hyper-competitive teams, and a lack of collaboration. Mission-led science is becoming the new normal, and Australia can lead the way. In this context, food scientists are not only contributing to innovations in food production and safety but also to broader scientific missions, such as improving public health and reducing environmental impact through sustainable practices. The National Science Statement outlines five imperatives that will shape the national science system and national science policy, and their influence on Australia’s transformation, over the next 10 years. I was invited to attend the New Zealand's Biological Heritage National Science Challenge final conference, Crazy & Ambitious 4, this week. It was fantastic to hear about all the work that has come out of this challenge over the last decade, as well as some frank reflections from leaders on the difficulties of getting it up and going! It was also inspiring to see the way te ao Māori and te ao Pākehā have been brought together to create a research programme which has engaged and inspired communities around the very serious issues of biosecurity and biological decline across Aotearoa. If I can boil it down to just a few takeaways... - The discourse that has bubbled away in the rest of the research system around mātauranga now seems very petty and pointless! People working in this space have moved on and are getting the job done. - As we all know, the NSCs are ending with no new funding in sight...but even if money came in tomorrow, it will still take months to years to organise new science missions. We will lose people and projects in the interim. - There was a strong message from leadership that they needed another 5 years to achieve real breakthroughs, given they lost years at the start of the NSCs getting up and running. In terms of mission-led science, 10 years is not really long-term! - There is an emerging narrative grouping te ao Māori, environmental interests, and the science sector as facing similar significant challenges over this term of government. We all have common goals in terms of the future we want to see for Aotearoa New Zealand, and we need to make sure we work together.
