🎉 Pretty Plastic: from Pavilion to Pool – our circle is complete! 🏊♂️ As Dutch Design Week 2024 unfolds, we’re excited to announce that our work on De Tongelreep National Swimming Centre is complete! The façade, now covered with 30,800 Pretty Plastic tiles across 1,400 m², showcases our 100% recycled PVC cladding. This milestone is especially meaningful for us, as it brings our journey full circle. Back at DDW 2017, Overtreders W and bureau SLA - we are architects launched our first prototype through the People's Pavilion - an ambitious experiment in circular construction. Today, during DDW 2024, we celebrate seeing that vision realised on a much larger scale. Peter van Assche, co-founder of Pretty Plastic, reflects: "At DDW 2016, we presented just two square metres of shingles, handcrafted in our self-built recycling factory. Thanks to the courage and vision of DDW, we were invited to create an entire pavilion at DDW 2017 based on those two square metres. This project gave us the springboard to fulfil our mission of cleaning up plastic waste." Pretty Plastic proves that aesthetics and sustainability can go hand in hand. The large-scale use of recycled PVC in the façade of the Tongelreep marks an important step towards a circular economy, where waste is transformed into valuable raw materials. 🌱 👉 If you’re visiting Dutch Design Week, don’t miss the chance to check out the Tongelreep National Swimming Centre! 📰 For more details, check out our press release and explore additional pictures here: https://lnkd.in/exfPMR2j Special thanks to Slangen + Koenis Architecten, the Gemeente Eindhoven and Mertens Bouwbedrijf B.V. for believing in our vision, and to the Dutch Design Foundation for inspiring and supporting this journey from concept to reality. 📸 Photo People’s Pavilion Dutch Design Week 2017: FILIP DUJARDIN PHOTOGRAPHER 📸 Photos of the Tongelreep: Maarten van Apeldoorn Fotografie (www.maarten.photos) #PrettyPlastic #BuildingFromWaste #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #DutchDesignWeek #GreenBuilding #RecycledPVC
