It is a pleasure to contribute to the WSA session at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS Process) Forum High-Level Event in Geneva, Switzerland, co-hosted by the International Telecommunication Union, the Swiss Confederation, UNESCO, UNDP, and UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The WSIS Action Lines outline steps to leverage information and communication technologies (ICTs) for sustainable development. The World Summit Awards (WSA) session, titled "Youth Engagement Around WSIS Action Lines," focuses on the critical role young people play in advancing the Tunis agenda, specifically regarding Action Line C7. This session emphasizes the importance of involving youth in implementing WSIS Action Lines. Engaging young people is vital because they are the primary users and creators of technology, represent a growing majority in many countries, and are essential for building an inclusive and fair knowledge society. Young people are passionate about climate change, civic participation, and challenging the status quo. The WSA aims to equip youth with skills and opportunities in the digital economy, including access to global professional networks, training in impactful entrepreneurship, and education in digital literacy and coding. During this session, participants will be invited to share successful initiatives that involve youth in ICT policymaking, ensuring their voices shape an inclusive digital future. Participants will also learn how young digital entrepreneurs use technology to implement WSIS Action Lines and will hear directly from some of the WSA Young Innovators. The session will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Peter A. Bruck, the Chairperson of WSA. More Details of the session: https://lnkd.in/g37fK6Bg I would like to thank the WSA community and Hanna-Mari Ristimäki for the invitation. #WSA #WSIS #ITU #technology #innovation #youth #SDGs #UN #information #agriculture #entrepreneurship #startup #business #impact

ACIS2024 Track 14: IS Research in Marginalized and Indigenous Contexts (Australasian Conference on Information Systems 2024, submission deadline: *August 19, 2024*) Track co-chairs Dhirendra Mani Shukla, Sun Ruonan (孫 若楠), Caroline Khene, Pitso Tsibolane Marginalized communities worldwide face economic and social exclusions, creating significant challenges in resource-constrained environments. Digital technologies have the potential to play a pivotal role in addressing these challenges by enabling social intermediation and bridging institutional voids. Properly implemented, these technologies can foster participatory development, promote social entrepreneurship, and drive digital social innovation. This track encourages discussions that move beyond mere acknowledgment of marginalized contexts, aiming to engage these communities in co-creating sustainable and inclusive solutions by amplifying their voices and incorporating indigenous wisdom. Join us to explore the full potential of digital technologies in empowering marginalized communities. In line with the goals of the European Year of Youth 2022, the Fairpreneurs-Erasmus Plus Project Project is committed to: 1.Improving Equal Opportunities: Ensuring all young entrepreneurs have the chance to combat youth unemployment and engage in social participation. 2.Promoting Sustainable Entrepreneurship: Advocating for socially and environmentally sustainable business practices to foster a fair economy. Youth unemployment in Europe remains a critical issue, standing at 14% as of January 2022—more than double the overall unemployment rate. With current global uncertainties, there's a real risk this figure could rise. The Fairpreneurs-Erasmus Plus Project supports the European Union Youth Strategy, which emphasises Entrepreneurship Education as a vital tool to reduce youth unemployment, prevent social exclusion, and drive innovation. The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (#EIT) is facing a major turning point as its Knowledge and Innovation Communities (#KICs) work towards becoming financially self-sufficient. A series of new reports shows good progress, but also raises concerns that the push for profitability could come at the cost of important #education and outreach programmes. As some KICs focus more on revenue, there is a risk that they will cut back on activities that have strong social value but do not generate income. #Research #innovation 🔎 More: https://lnkd.in/edieksdh

🌍 Celebrating Youth Day: Empowering the Next Generation for a Greener Future🌱 On Youth Day, we honour the incredible potential of young people to drive meaningful change, especially in the pursuit of a sustainable, green economy. Across Africa and the world, the transition to a green economy hinges on developing “green skills”—the knowledge, abilities, values, and attitudes essential for supporting a sustainable, resource-efficient society. At Africa's Green Economy Summit, we believe that young people are not just participants but catalytic agents in building a greener future. That’s why our youth initiative is designed to equip and empower them through: 1. A Graduate Programme: Providing valuable experience and insights into the green economy and running of the event itself. 2. Green Economy Ambassadors: Involving youth in the conference, through note-taking and assisting the team. 3. Free Delegate Tickets: Offering a limited number of graduates the opportunity to attend, learn, and network at our event. 4. Youth and Start-up Lightning Talks: A platform for young innovators to share their ideas and inspire others. 5. Discounted Rates for Young Entrepreneurs and Start-ups: Making it easier for the next generation of leaders to engage with the green economy. By placing green skills at the heart of education, employment, and everyday life, we’re helping to ensure that young people are ready to take the lead in creating a sustainable future for Africa and beyond. Let’s continue to invest in our youth and the green skills they need to build a better tomorrow. 🌍✨ #YouthDay #GreenEconomy #Sustainability #Africa #Empowerment #FutureLeaders
