FXB Climate Advocates’ Post

I am thrilled to share that I have successfully completed the FXB Climate Advocate Program, a comprehensive 5-month journey that has expanded my knowledge, skills, and passion for climate action. This program has been nothing short of transformative, equipping me with tools and insights to drive impactful change in addressing the climate crisis. The program kicked off with training sessions on Climate and Storytelling, highlighting the power of narratives in shaping climate action. From there, I delved into: 🌱 Climate Change Immersion and Global Climate Policy 🌿 Nature-Based Solutions and their role in resilience 🍽️ Food and Agriculture and their intersection with climate 💊 Climate and Health—an increasingly vital area of focus 📖 Digital Storytelling Workshops to enhance advocacy I also had the privilege of exploring cutting-edge areas like AI & Climate Advocacy and youth-led climate initiatives. These experiences were deeply enriching and have provided a robust foundation for tackling climate challenges. As the program culminated, I collaborated with my Guyanese colleague, Nicasi Kissoon, on an impactful project titled: "Bridging Climate Resilience: Shared Stories and Solutions from Ghana and Guyana." This project offered a unique opportunity to exchange perspectives and co-create solutions between our two countries, highlighting the shared challenges and strengths in building climate resilience. I am incredibly grateful to FXB International and the dedicated professionals and peers who made this experience so rewarding. Thanks to FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University, New York University, Project Drawdown, Citizens' Climate Lobby Honolulu for availing well seasoned devoted experts to train advocates vigorously. The journey doesn’t end here—I am more inspired than ever to advocate for sustainable solutions and amplify the voices of communities most affected by the climate crisis. Exploring Blended Finance for Climate Action: 🌍💰 According to James Murombedzi, the head of African Climate Policy Center (ACPC), Africa will need to explore private sector investments and innovative financing mechanisms like debt-for-nature and debt-for-climate swaps will help bridge financial gaps and accelerate initiatives such as the Great Green and Blue Walls. #CFF2024 🗣️ The voices of young people are essential for driving the changes we need, both locally and at the global level.   With the support and guidance of the OCT Youth Network, representatives of the younger generations from the overseas territories will be joining the CFF in Brussels next week to raise awareness of the climate change realities facing OCTs and to mobilize attendees on their need to unlock access to climate finance.   ➡️ 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺.   During the forum, young people will focus on advocating for accelerated access to climate financing, but they will also have the opportunity to: 🔷 Address decision-makers directly, 🔷 Highlight positive actions already taken by youth in their territories, 🔷 Build more concrete connections with other youth from OCTs and the EU.   💡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 new opportunity to raise awareness on the journey to upcoming international events.   #GOCFF #GO4Climate #OCT #climatefinanceforum #ClimateAction #ClimateFinance #ClimateResilience Event organized by the Green Overseas Programme , funded by the European Union, and implemented by Expertise France.

Important next steps coming out of #WBGMeetings: connecting people to #climatefinance / financing arrangements for responding to #lossanddamage, going the "last mile" through #socialprotection. How? 👉🏽 Making sure next iteration of NDCs and NAPs include all available instruments across sectors to include and support people #LNOB 👉🏽 Aligning climate finance investment criteria and indicators to enable funds to flow to people through #socialprotectionsystems 👉🏽 Supporting access to new / innovative climate financing for a #justtransition and jointly supporting countries through TA facilities / platforms. We are currently in #BAKU listening to the youth led dialouge of NCQGs. And I am really suprised that #GERMANY and a few other parties send high delegation members to this meeting. "Youth is going to the blind spot ... and we are going to implement this in our national strategies" German representative assures. Intergenerational equity is a vital but often underrepresented principle in climate finance. Today’s youth are disproportionately affected by climate impacts and will bear the long-term consequences of policies decided now. As the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) for climate finance is set to be established, it is essential to center youth perspectives within these frameworks. Youth-led dialogues are proving essential to shaping climate finance structures that ensure equity, accountability, and resilience. Youth engagement in NCQG discussions not only brings fresh insights but also drives a commitment to long-term climate solutions, prioritizing actions that go beyond short-term gains. Young leaders emphasize sustainable projects that foster community resilience, innovation, and equitable resource distribution. Their voices advocate for finance strategies that ensure the most vulnerable populations are protected and supported.

AFN members recognize the urgent need to reduce the growing impact of climate change on household financial stability and racial and gender wealth equity. In 2025, AFN will launch Climate as our 8th issue area, starting with a concise, framing paper illustrating these challenges and highlighting intersectional grantmaking opportunities to advance economic security and equitable climate resilience. Additional programming will follow, connecting climate solutions across AFN’s seven other issue areas.

My journey with the Youth Negotiators Academy has been transformative. Training alongside passionate young leaders has deepened my commitment to amplify African voices in climate negotiations. As I prepare for the upcoming talks, my hope is to bring attention to the urgent need for sustainable finance and resilience measures that align with Africa’s unique needs. It’s time for negotiations to reflect not just the priorities of developed nations, but the lived realities of vulnerable communities.
