What does it take to develop future-focused projects in the heart of Europe, in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Port of Rotterdam? Nancy De Groof, our Vice President Advario Belgium, took the stage at the #Stocexpo conference in Rotterdam, to reflect on changes, opportunities... and the importance of collaboration. Advario strengthened its position in the area in 2023, by acquiring a land lease in the Port of Rotterdam (https://lnkd.in/ea49jGaA). Our Rotterdam site will complement our existing terminals in Antwerp. Our position in Belgium and the Netherlands now covers three different locations, each with a distinct profile. Advario Stolthaven Antwerp (ASA) is a large terminal with a diverse portfolio in chemicals, fuels and gases. On the opposite bank of the river Scheldt we have Antwerp Gas Terminal (AGT), the largest LPG hub in northwestern Europe and our center of gas storage expertise. In Rotterdam, Advario has the opportunity to build the terminal of the future, a terminal focused on green molecules, on a greenfield location at the heart of the Botlek. The three terminals have a different scope, and have different opportunities. Nancy: “At ASA, together with our partner Stolthaven Terminals, our focus is on the renewal and reconfiguration of our chemical park, and the reconversion of petroleum infrastructure for the storage of sustainable fuels. At AGT, together with Fluxys, we look to expand into ammonia storage. At both locations we are part of the conversation on CO2 storage. And in Rotterdam, we are exploring value-adding partnerships that include co-siting with a producer of sustainable products.” “Three different profiles, three different assets,” said Nancy, “But what they have in common is that they all fit Advario’s future-focused strategy, are built on collaboration and deep partnerships, and have the potential to play a pivotal role in the #transition to cleaner energy.”

How many trucks come through your terminal daily? Busy operators probably see several 1000 moves a day. Trucks serve a critical component in the supply chain, but the amount of carbon emissions they bring severely impacts terminals' goals in reducing their SCOPE 1 & 2 emissions. Imagine harnessing the kinetic energy of every truck flowing through your gates. The team at Sostratus Energy has developed VIAGEN to capture every one of those truck moves. Our system converts kinetic energy into stored reusable clean electricity by capturing the forward motions of passing trucks using clever hydraulic pistons. What if you could offset those trucks' carbon footprints and use the energy generated to power your terminal's operations? We are launching the product on the 17th of June at our Leeds Innovation test center, with major groups interested in attending the VIP Opening Event! If you want to supercharge your terminal, give the team at Sostratus a call.

The lack of dedicated CO2-carriers has until now been a bottleneck for the development of CCS in Europe. Without means of transportation to connect the dots between capture and storage of CO2, there is no CCS. With todays agreement between INEOS on behalf of the partnership behind Project Greensand and Royal Wagenborg on the delivery of a new built CO2-carrier we have taken a very big step towards the establishment of the full value chain of CCS. A very good day for Project Greensand and for CCS in Europe.

"Bjorn’s call is for us to shift our focus away from making policies to appease the doomsday heralds and to instead fix our attention on energy innovation – the historic key that opened the door to our industrial revolution and brought us the prosperity we experience today." For me this philosophy is demonstrated in the energy innovation of Rodney Allam's new clean energy startups that use natural gas, NET Power to produce electricity and the other 8RH2 to produce clean hydrogen/ammonia. This also is supported here in AB by the CEO of ATCO Nancy Southern who sees the combination of the use of natural gas with carbon capture as a logical progression to energy independence that supports green agriculture here in the west. For example we can use natural gas to produce hydrogen via 8RH2 tech and use that hydrogen in Versatile tractors built in MB that are equipped with Cummins hydrogen engines. Now that is recipe for both food and energy independence for north America!
